Any rumours of moves other than Carlchopa -> Auckland btw?

I suppose I can indulge in some brainless offseason speculation as well.

Auckland are going to be spoilt for middle order batsmen this season if they retain them all. That's probably a good thing since Hopkins or Munro at number five looks one spot too high. Of course if they go for five specialists in the top five then someone has to go out of CdG and Munro unless they think three specialist bowlers is enough. I think three specialist bowlers then two fifth bowlers is asking for it, especially if they have nicked Cachopa back to make it three fifth bowlers.

Two openers, Cachopa, Cachopa, Kitchen, Munro, Hopkins would be my top seven. CdG and Hakaraia ready and waiting. Looking forward to seeing if Bartlett can continue to impress as well. I guess there is a chance Auckland will have the services of Bruce Martin more often than Bucko will like, Bates will be around, McClenaghan and Mills should play a fair few games and Chris Martin hasn't officially retired has he?

Northern Districts need a clean out of the batting. They'll probably get one too since Marshall has gone and Yovich can't be far off. Joe Carter, Bharat Popli and Jono Hickey appear to be Howsie favourites and they ripped it up in A cricket so Collapsing Districts should contract them. Seifert will probably get in as well. Carter, Flynn, Wilson, Mitchell, Popli/Hickey, Anderson, Seifert looks raw but might make a name for itself. Bowling wise they should tempt Mathieson back north with more game time. Their success with producing bowlers has been a double edged sword and Southee/Boult won't turn out for them too often this season I suspect. Arnel and Aldridge aren't far off retiring either so a promising quick in the bank to complement Verma, Baker and Anderson would be a good move.

I don't think we will defend our title this year. If Carl Cachopa has made the move then our middle order looks fragile. Sinclair needs to Sinclair it, Young needs to announce himself and the new guy (Hay? Was our best batsman in the A tournament iirc) needs to contribute as well. Kruger regaining the batting form that saw him so beloved by PEWS toy would be great too. However if we can keep Milne and Wheeler on the park, we will win more often than we lose. I liked how KNB moved himself up the order when he became captain but I think he's much better used down the order to smash stuff.

Will make up stuff about the other teams later.

Yeah Steve to make a cameo on that Carlchopa rumour and other moves if he can.

The new ND coach Pamment is very familiar with Seifert via one-on-one technical work they've done, so it's possible that will see him shielded from play for a bit longer than otherwise.

"Heinrich was able to demonstrate very clear thinking around what the strengths of our current squad are and what needed to be done with each of them individually in each of the formats.

"He cleary demonstrated that he'd done a lot of homework on what we needed to be doing and then presented a plan as to how we could go out and perform and be successful."

Wicketkeeper Kruger van Wyk, who was briefly a team-mate of Malan's, South African-born batsman Carl Cachopa and How all tapped into their own networks, as CD sought to see if Malan stacked up.

"Everyone spoke very highly of him...and the feedback was all very consistent," said Henderson.



Henderson said previous CD coaches have been asked to do the virtually impossible, which had contributed to the relatively high attrition rate. But Malan will not be convener of selectors, nor have any talent-spotting and coaching responsibilities across CD's eight districts.

He will concentrate solely on cricket and the Stags, leaving people like manager Lance Hamilton and director of cricket Craig Ross to deal with all the off-the-park stuff. Malan will also be supported by specialist skills coaches Shane Bond, Mark Greatbatch and Mike Shrimpton, as well as psychologist Gary Hermansson.

From a playing perspective, Henderson said "if he was a betting man" he'd take a punt on the Stags retaining all of last summer's squad.

Crowe interviewed by Deaker today. Just talk to us about batting Martin. So he did.
Phenomenal stuff. Some of it too rich to take in one sitting you would have to sit down with him and query him to make sure you understood what he was saying.

Some good tips about the advantages of playing the ball late so it won't go in the air. And playing with a straight bat to avoid lbws.

He felt our batsman were to blame for getting bowled out for 68 at Lords.

New Zealand Cricket - Pitch marquee first for NZC at Lincoln

Wonder how W33ra will be looking in this marquee. I'll be disappointed if he hasn't been strutting around getting chix to watch his video as a first-year Massey student; I want some macho caning of short balls and a sort of Unmukt/Wagner duel with that **** Fotia, when the video comes back.

Pitch marquee first for NZC at Lincoln

A 45 metre long by 12 metre wide aluminium framed marquee has been erected at the New Zealand Cricket High Performance Centre in Lincoln, in what is an innovative new way to help players train during winter.

The aluminium framed marquee covers two wickets which had been previously prepared with the use of growth lamps. The lamps are used day and night and are specifically designed to assist in drying the wickets, while simultaneously promoting grass growth.

The pitches support both pace and spin bowlers and have already been used by the White Ferns at their recent training camp. The NZ Winter Training Squad and NZ U-19 squad will also use the facility.

“The project has allowed for players to train outside during the winter, which is almost unheard of in New Zealand due to the cold climate,” said NZC’s General Manager Ground and Facilities Ian McKendry.

“It has produced a number of challenges, but the feedback so far has been excellent and the potential to be able to play on grass all year long is huge.”

“This is the first step, but it’s an exciting new direction for off-season training.”

The marquee is scheduled to come down on June 24.

I can't believe they haven't thought of this before.

But still, thank ****ing christ we're ditching the concrete. Maybe our players health insurance will decrease in price now.

I applaud the creation of these types of facilities. Cricket in NZ has always been disproportionately affected by the weather imo and facilities like this sprinkled round the country should make a huge difference to that.

I like the photo - looks like fairly cheap, rudimentary technology, the kind that could be replicated elsewhere without too much difficulty. There will no doubt be teething problems (most likely with getting the conditions consistent right for grass growth and with pitch wear and tear) but if there are a few clever people involved they'll find ways round that. Looks like it needs lighting for use in the winter though.
