AUSTRALIA is set to hand John Hastings his World Cup debut for the Group A match against Canada, with strike bowler Shaun Tait due for a rest. Captain Ricky Ponting said with Australia playing three games in seven days, the South Australian speedster is in line to have a break before Saturday's match with Pakistan in Colombo.
"If he (Tait) was to go, then Hastings would come in and then we look at what we do with the new ball," Ponting said.
"That would create some issues, but that'd be the obvious change we'd look at."
Victoria medium-pacer Hastings might be better suited to first-change, leaving Ponting with the options of promoting Mitchell Johnson to new-ball duties or giving off-spinner Jason Krejza the opening role. Australia will be keen to give a more impressive showing in Bangalore tonight against Canada than Sunday's effort against world No 13 Kenya, when the defending champion scored a 60-run win.

Am assuming this is mostly to give Hastings a run and not actually about resting Tait.


It will be a big occasion for Krejza as he takes on Canada all-rounder John Davison, the former Shield player who is also Cricket Australia's spin coach.

Given that it will be Davison's last game before he retires, I'm guessing he'll put in a blinder of a performance.

Yeah i know he does'nt look in great nick, just that he is due to find a bit of form and smack a big one , we'll see.
