I was just thinking that on a wearing 4th/5th day wicket, considering the style Tait bowls, I wouldn't like to face him if the ball is shooting through/spitting. That could be another aspect of his bowling which is in his favour if the pitch is going through the top but not really turning?

That said;

Particularly since this deck is shaping up to be a bunsen.

i still want to see both of them picked, Gillespie and Kaspa just dont seem to have any penetration at the moment

Think that's a little harsh on Kaspa, I thought he bowled decently in the first innings & his ball to get Bell was a gem. His figures in the 2nd look v ropey, but I don't think he did much wrong. At his pace & with Fred having a go there's only gonna be two results.

Dizzy looks a shadow of the bowler he was tho, I agree. Perhaps in the absence of McGrath & (possibly) BLee it'll stiffen his resolve.

Although, obviously as a Pom I hope he continues to dish up the pies! :p

England IMO has no hope in hell at Old trafford if both Warne and Macgill play :D , infact even if Warne alone played it would be England's worst nightmare at Old Trafford !! :D

Told you before - they've been mixing the concrete for 3 days and poured it yesterday. Do you SERIOUSLY believe that it's going to be a dry turner?

(actually, if it was, Peter Marron would be putting out all sorts of smokescreens to indicate that it wasn't - oh, wait.....)

How did Danish Kaneria go on there last month? 0-200 or so. I know it's highly unlikely that you will be looking down the barrels of a 2-1 reversal next week, but by God we can hope from this end, just to wipe a bit more of the arrogance off a few faces..

i see no problem with playing 3 very attacking bowlers (lee, tait and macgill) with warne, might cost a higher run rate but the English wickets should fall faster which, i reakon, will be the key, especially given England have 2 batsmen who will score fast no matter who is bowling.

Is it highly unlikely? If it isnt the dry crumbling turner that people have been talking about and is actually a hard/seamers wicket then surely with a much more potent bowling attack..England would start as favourites?

Pick Tait! I love watching him bowl... how will we ever know if he`s any good if he doesn`t play?

Bracken should be ahead of Clark, he`s in England and was the second best bowler to Tait.

Is Bracken playing county cricket ? If he is, he should definitely be there ahead of Clark ... however, I don't think Clark will get a match so it's all academic (Clark will probably play now and show me up :p)

After his perfromance on behind the grandstand i think the selectors have put him into that "never to play test crcket again" pile.

It's actually better for Australia if it's hard.

Batsmen will enjoy it, Giles wont, and Warne/MacGill turn it on anything and will appreciate the bounce.
Who cares about Giles?

Flintoff and Harmison will be lethal on it, as cricinfo says "The most successful bowler at Manchester in 2005 is Durham's Steve Harmison"

No. I'd be stunned if England started favourites anywhere, really.

The outcome of the game in my mind should rest with Australias batsmen. With Warne bowling very well and Gillespie and Kasprowicz doing decently in the first innings at Edgbaston, I'd say Australia are quite capable of bowling England out for reasonable scores, regardless of the state of the pitch. Especially if Australia win up batting first, given the likelyhood of turn at the end of the match. It has been Australia's batting, rather than their bowling, that has been the problem in the series so far, and players like Ponting, Martyn and Gilchrist need to make some runs.

Totally what I've been saying to everyone at school but they refuse to listen ... if Australia bat first and get a good 1st innings total, it is hard to see them losing. Wonder who'll score the first century of the series ( if there is one at all :p ) ?

Yeah, people forget that Kaspa didn't have the advantage of using the new ball like Gillespie and at the time that Kaspa was getting spanked so was Lee. In the first innings Kaspa was the best of the seamers.
