Root hides from responsibility like he's the new kid on the block. He's meant to be the captain and even opened in tests before. He should be at 3. It would make a statement to Australia and his side. But he's simply not captain material.

This is a monumental choke from England considering the score at stumps.

It obviously doesn't mean he's terrible, it's just a bit annoying given he's reached a 50+ score 22 times while the average between the other three is less than 13.

In a test match every ball should be played on it's merit in my view unless pushing for a declaration (or aggressively hunting down a target with enough wickets in hand to gamble and time running out).
