**Official** 2004 Natwest Series (Eng, NZL, WI)

As long as they're ticking the scoreboard over...Hamish Marshall is a good example of this. But as soon as players like Atherton or Richardson start hogging the strike & getting a single off the last ball of the over it can frustrate the rest of the team & low totals will be achieved.

I still think you need one Atherton or Richardson fr solidarity at the top. Obviously, you want attacking players at 6 and 7, etc.

nope ODI cricket todays demands hitters at the top of the order as well who can take advantage of the 15 overs restrictions. atherton was just way too defensive and 1 dimensional in that he couldnt go for the slog if he had to later on in the game either.

Rather embarassingly, Steve Harmison had the fourth best average of the England players with 15.

And only 3 English players made more than 50 runs in the series. Strauss (264), Flintoff (250) and Trescothick (81). IMO, it is worrying times.

Harris should have had his 200th wicket much earlier in the innings when Shepherd turned down the plub LBW decision.

This isn't the side i'd necessarily pick to play Australia in the ICC Trophy..but I think this is the side the selectors/team will pick (presuming everyone is fit)

Fleming
Astle
Marshall
Styris
McMillan
Cairns
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Bond
Tuffey

i'd have Tuffey bracketed with Butler because I think he was much improved in this series.
McMillan has no doubt saved himself for another series with that 50 & likewise with Vettori.
There was more chance of McMillan facing the axe then Vettori was in reality IMO.

So for the NatWest XI, would Bravo (10 @ 25, over 5 an over) still make your team ahead of the likes of Butler, Bradshaw, Styris etc? Your opinions please. :D
Yes. He would.
