**Official** 1st Test @ Perth, 22nd-26th November

King Kane

International Regular
Incredible shot from Pant, the falling over lap sweep for six.

Not the first time he has played it either, that was no fluke.

i mean, i don't recall Kerry O'Keefe as being some sort of master scout tbh. His opinion doesn't carry much weight at all imo
You don't think commentators broadcasting the national sport have an obligation to speak some level of sense, not this rah rah rah all our players are mega superstars stuff?

Jake Fraser-McGurk isn't getting picked by his Sheffield Shield side, yet a long-term Australian commentator just compared him to Rishabh Pant. It's pretty shithouse.

Has the uncanny ability to remain so still at the point of contact playing those outrageous shots, seemingly off balance.

Warner actually has good insights to offer but just does not have the voice for commentary
Not sure 'balls spinning away from you bounce more than ones spinning into you' was a great insight, but yeah you'd expect that from a guy who's just played 15 years of international cricket. His voice does suck, though, and he's just really unlikeable

Pant had 2000 runs at an average of 60 and a strike rate over 100 in FC when he first got picked. There were reservations about him looking hacky but the numbers said generational talent. JFM is a one innings wonder.. in List A lol

He doesn't usually do that tbh. He probably has as broad a knowledge of overseas cricketers as any commentator doing the rounds anywhere. He researches them pretty assiduously, I'm talking carries handwritten notebooks into the comm box with him which he's assembled in the off season while sitting up all night watching other countries play each other.

Particularly stands out cf compared with his colleagues on Fox, which isn't hard. I think, as Spark said, he genuinely believes JFM is a big talent. I don't think he's right, but I also don't think his views in this instance are caused by cheerleading.

Frustrating partnership for Australia but good news for their batters. Pitch looks great for batting now.

Absolutely but Cummins didn't help himself by spinning around in circles.
Well yeah because he was struggling to predict where the ball would land. Like I said, a lot easier said than done over your shoulder running backwards

Yeah exactly, that's why the comparison is so junk.

We had a guy in NZ called Peter Ingram who we thought was the next master blaster, absolutely dominated FC cricket. He averaged 27 in 8 ODIs - once backed away to Shaun Tait - and was never picked again, and branded a hacker forever more. He averages 10 more an innings than JFM.
