Well he more than doubled the Wellington ListA record for a number 8.

The previous best record overall for an NZ provincial team was: Yasir Arafat for Otago in 2009/10.
With a 110*

van Beek is such a strange player. He's capable of these massive highs and incredible lows but rarely just has a solid, decent game.

EDIT: Two full bungers being hit for six by van Beek off Ajaz is pretty weak bowling.

Also, bizarre how they're managing to get a game in at the Basin. We've had some pretty heavy squally showers out in the Hutt - and the wind's a shocker today too.
Yeah, we've had rain in Thorndon and it's pretty gloomy out there. Was surprised to see they were playing. Van Beek presumably was fired up after that Super Smash final over last week.

Surprised Robinson is still missing - I assumed he had a minor injury but he's been out for a few weeks now.

While I'm looking at the List A records.

O'Rourke's 6/20 today is the second best ever List A bowling performance for Canterbury (beaten by Ryan McCone's 6/19 eleven years ago)

And the 8th best ever for any NZ province.

The scorecard notes have this:
  • LV van Beek: Highest score by a Number 8 in New Zealand List A Cricket (136)
  • MA Abbas and LV van Beek: Record 7th Wicket Partnership for Wellington Firebirds in List A Cricket (159)

O'Rourke is really showing the difference in improvement rate between himself (and guys like Henry, KJ, Ferguson before him) and the guys we were playing last season (Kuggs, Tickner, Duffy).

The latter can and have bowled good test spells, but in 10 seasons they have rarely stamped their name on a season like an O'Rourke, Henry or Ferguson already have at such young ages.

Henry Shipley needs to return from injury, force his way into a strong Canterbury side, and at age 27 show he is ready immediately.

Foulkes' dismissal of Muller is pure ***. Late, zippy inswing. So much potential in that young man. Haven't seen a guy swing it like that in domestics since Seth Rance - hopefully he kicks onto bigger things than that.
Given he debuted as an opening bat in first class cricket the sky really is the limit for him. He really should get the O’Rourke treatment and pushed into the NZ sooner then later

Definitely think he’s passed Smith as an option already

Got to temper it a bit that I think a few Foulkes LBWs to the RHBs would suffer from DRS reviews, once that is put under the spotlight at the higher level.

But, he's also got a fair few bowleds.

Not doubting his effectiveness to LHBs though. Would expect that effectiveness to transfer to test level with little trouble.

Hmmm...might've debuted as an opening bat but his domestic batting numbers are nothing to suggest he's being picked as anything other than a bowler. Nathan Smith has an FC hundred and 9 50s, and a few in List A. I'd think Smith is still ahead. Not saying at all that Foulkes might end up being the better international option long-term.

Absolutely. We've talked about trying to replace Trent as a left-armer, but it would be a similar point of difference to have a guy who brings it back into RHers/away from LHers.

Yeah Foulkes and Smith both need runs. Atm they're both in the Sam Curran hell of being diminutive new ball bowlers who don't justify a top 7 spot.
