Blewy

Cricketer Of The Year
In a press conference just held by the SACA, Manager Brendon Goff has revealed he will be stepping aside from his role as Redbacks Manager at the end of the season.

Goff has been with South Australia since midway though the 1st season and has taken them to glory on many occasions including the back-to-back Division 1 Double in seasons 4 and 5.

"The decision was a tough one but i felt that the time was right for me to step aside and let someone else take over the reins" Goff said..

"I feel i have achieved everything i wanted here and am very greatful for the opportunity".

"The SACA have known of my decision for a couple of weeks as i felt i owed it to them a chance to look for a new manager"

Redbacks Director Derek Winkler also revealed the identity of the new manager, Former Worcestershire and current ACT manager Simon "Broncoman" Fitzsimmons will fill the vacancy, and in a interesting twist Goff has also agreed to terms with ACT to manage them until the end of Season 7.

Winkler, who has been director of the Redbacks since their inception into the WCC revealed that the board felt that Fitzsimmons was the right man for the job after his efforts in Division 5 last season to take a brand new ACT side to both titles..

ACT President Merv Hughes, told reporters that the ACT board felt Goff was the man to bring through the Youth of the ACT..

Full press conferences with both managers will be held shortly...

Blewy

Cricketer Of The Year
Press Conference with Brendon Goff

I = Interveiwer
B = Brendon

I: Im here with current SA coach and future ACT coach Brendon "Blewy" Goff, How are you today Blewy??

B: Well thanx mate.

I: Well you've just recently confirmed rumours that this will be your last season with the Redbacks, how do you feel right now?

B: Yeah theres a bit of emotion there, I've been with SA since basically day 1, i've seen plenty of players come and go and had plenty of highs and lows but i felt now was the time to stand down and let someone else step in.

I: It was obviously a tough decision how long has this been going on in your mind for?

B: Well i have been talking this over with close friends and family since the beginning of the season. Last seasons effort were brilliant and i felt there was not alot left to do with the boys, but i decided to go 1 more year and see if we could not go that well again, we have pretty much matched our efforts and i thought the time was right.

I: Blewy, What do you say to the people who have critisied your move saying you are getting out before the rot starts or that you are not loyal?

B: Well those people can say what they like, As i said before i have been with SA since basically Day 1 and have bled for the club. I have poured my heart and soul into building this team to what they are today and talk like that is ridiculous. As for comments that this side is on the way down, you only have to look at the talent in this squad to see that is utter bull. Players like Stratton, Snow, French, Adam are all yet to hit their peak but are still playing brilliant cricket, and with guys like Andy Flower and Shane Bond leading the way their is still plenty of room for this side to get better, and i think Simon will do a good job.

I: How do you see your move to ACT going, was it a hard decision to make?

B: No it wasn't a tough decision, you look at the ACT side and their is plenty of potential, they have alot of youth and that is where i will lay the focus. I feel in the talent they have there is no reason why they can't challenge the big teams within 2-3 seasons. Its just a matter of nurturing the youngsters along and with a couple of experienced heads in Ramage , Flintoff, Jeffrey and French i think we will do well.

I: How did the move come about?

B: After i told the Derek Winkler(SACA Director) of my decision they asked if i recommended any managers to take the spot, I told them that Simon "Broncoman" Fitzsimmons would be a good choice and they approached him. When he decided he would take it, Merv Hughes a good mate of mine asked me if i would join him at the ACT, and the rest is history..

I: Have you met with any of the player from ACT as yet to discuss futures?

B: So far i have only spoken to a couple of players but as for futures etc, im not really sure, im still contracted to SA till the seasons end, I will be having a meeting within the next week or so with the ACT boys to see what we have...

I: Finally do you have any messages you would like to give to anyone

B: I would just like to say thankyou to everyone here in South Australia for your support, to all the players past and present, thankyou, you have made it a special time for me, one that i will never forget, And don't forget when ACT come knocking on your door remember who helped you in your early years

I: Blewy, thanx for your time

B: No Problems

Rumor has it that the reason for the stepping down by Manager and Chairman of South Australian Club Blewy was due to a *** scandal with one of the workers of South Australia and she threatend to take charges and blewy felt it was wise if he stood down..

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE ACT COMETS

Manager Simon Fitzsimmons last week informed that he would step aside as manager of WCC's ACT side. The Board decided to accept the resignation of Fitzsimmons on the condition that South Australian Manager Brendon Goff would take up the role of the ACT team.

Both managers have agreed it is a great opportunity for each of them. Current SA manager Brendon Goff has lived all of his WCC career at the top and is keen to show his wares with a side further down WCC tree, however for Fitzsimmons a move to SA will be his first taste of Division 1.

Fitzsimmons has admitted to some nerves in taking over the best side in the competition, "Its going to be very tough for me to keep SA where the are now, however im confident that the side can be better than ever next season.

When asked about possible changes to the squad he replied, "The side has been so succesful i dont see a lot of need to change the squad, there may be a slight change in the bowling line up, but there are some great players there such as Flower, Stratton and Snow"

Fitzsimmons will be reunited with Former ACT players Ben Dennet and Heath Axelby at South Australia, while Goff with team up with Shane Watson for the second time in his WCC career. It has not been yet decided if any players will swap clubs from ACT to SA or vice versa.

More later.......

This has been a WCC press release
