Most hype before a test debut?

For us, it was Kraigg Brathwaite— the kid had amassed 76 centuries in various levels of cricket before making his test debut.

Adrian Barath was another one—he was making lots of runs at a very young age.

And let’s not forget Rahkeem Cornwall.

I remember 1991 when you brought over to us a lad called Lara, who had a huge reputation, and then didn't pick him for any of the Tests - I wasn't alone by any means in wanting your frontline batsmen to pick up a few injuries

Definitely Graeme Hick.

Not only in England, but by playing his winters (while waiting to qualify) in NZ and then for Queensland in Sheffield Shield - his fame and hype had spread well beyond just his 'home' nation.

Apart from other players , like Hick, qualifying for a second nation ; the only other instances I could see this level of anticipation happening now is if a big name T20 specialist decided to play test cricket. E.g. Keiron Pollard. (I don't think Pooran has particularly large global reputation, his debuting would go relatively un-hyped outside his home nation).

If Rashid Khan had a few years more to wait before Afghan got test status maybe he would have been, but then it gets over-shadowed anyway by the whole debut test for entire new nation.

can you give it a rest? this is like the dumbest feud. from what i gather you don't like trundler because he made a bad call and wanted mitchell starc dropped. boo ****ing hoo. go look at my earliest posts in the starc v boult thread if you want to see what a massively overrated hype job in test matches i correctly declared starc as early on before the worthless **** came good in tests a couple of years ago.

trundler doesn't even make the bottom 15 crap members on here. you're all thoroughly mid-pack with magrat and ed on top as the best humans on the site and me, anderson propagandists and the 12 year old indian nationalists at the bottom. just chill bro.

Was there much hype when Warne made his debut?
Not really iirc. Had a modest FC record and they were looking for a spinner for Sydney. I don't recall there being much hype about him at all tbh, but it was the tail end of the pace dominated era over here anyway. Far more hype about someone like McDermott when he debuted in 84 than there was with Warne, unless I've got the recollection arse about.

Mark Waugh was hyped up pretty big, but then he'd made like 5K FC runs or some such before he got a game.

Not a bad summary tbh, save you left me out of the top posters.

Frankly I thought the kid was truly insipid before all that shite regarding Starc tbh. I find his desire to try and insert himself into absolutely every single thread utterly nauseating, pretty much the Peirs Morgan of CW
