Mohammad Yousuf the best pakistani batsmen ever?

Do you think he has become the best pakistani batsmen ever? his average definatly says so. He averages 56.27 in tests and 42.03 in Odi's. He is far ahead of most pakistani batsmens.

Nah he's not. He's been a great Pakistani servant though, but there are about 3-5 batsman who have been better.

Hm.. don't know about best, but easily most underrated by far. I'd easily have him amongst the best batsmen of the past half decade, with only Ponting clearly ahead of him.

well how do you define a good batsmen? in terms of average he is far ahead of any pakistani batsmen. even guys like Miandad or Inzamam

In general, averages have been much higher for the past 3,4 seasons compared to the 90s(for example). And it's very obvious that the tracks have become much better in general and the bowling attacks over the world have been quite poor compared to the 90s.

And MY has majorly boosted his averages over this period.Dont think he's as good a player as Inzi(who was on the decline during the same period) though he has a better average.

Not even close.
how so? u r saying if he continues the same form for another couple of years.. he still won't be the best pakistani batsman? that is just wrong and unfair and i don't agree with u

with inzi gone now.. it is his test now.. if he does what inzi did and full inzi's shoes then he should be considered..

That's all speculation though, we can only judge Mohammad Yousuf on what he has acheived so far in international cricket. Javed Miandad, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Hanif Mohammad are all ahead of him at the current point in time, while I think Saeed Anwar, Zaheer Abbas and Saleem Malik could all put good cases forward.

yousuf has made the hightest run score in a calander year... none of those players have achaived anything like that.. and he did it recently considering that then he should be considered better than all of them..

Haha, what? By your logic Phil Jaques is the best Test opener ever, because he just scored a century. Absolutely ridiculous way of thinking, and the fact he acheived that feat recently could be held against him because he didn't face a top attack. Whenever he has come up against tough opposition he has generally faulted, his record against South Africa and Australia is evidence of this.

He isnt that close to the top right now. There are at least a fw guys clerly ahead of him.

However, keep going for a few more years and be part of a successful Pakistan team and things may change.

As said - not even close. Yousuf has never been anything more than a decent Test batsman, who can bash rubbish bowling (and absolutely mercilessly bash it when he gets dropped about twice every Test like he was between December 2005 and October 2006) but has rarely done that much of note against the better attacks he's faced.

Inzamam so far ahead of him it's untrue. Not to mention the Hanifs et al.

MoYo is definitely an improved batsman but he is not even close to being the best Pakistan batsman ever, the likes of Miandad, Inzi, Anwar, Hanif and Abbas were all more talented and better batsmen than MoYo.

How can people rate likes of Zaheer Abbas, Hanif etc who average in low 40s ahead of M. Yousuf. I know averages are not everything, but the difference of 12-15 is huge, especially when some people say he's not even close to other batsmen which is a joke.

And Richard:
Dropped catches, wtf? I know you're talking about the ones when he set the world record, but there weren't as many as you make it look like. And the ones there were would have been anyway because no batsman is going to score 1700 odd runs without luck.

At the moment, he's on par with the likes of Ponting, Kallis, and Dravid.

He was also talking about the highest number of runs in a calender year which you ignored completely. The fact even the likes of Dravid, Kallis and other good players have never come close to scoring 1700 in a year means it was a huge effort from M. Yousuf

Well scoring that many runs in a calendar year is an undoubtable show of class no matter which way you look at it even now MoYo is still by and large Pakistan's form batsman, whether or not he is as good as the legends being bandied about in this thread we we only be sure when he finshes his career and we can compare that to those who came before him.
