Well, it looks like Mother Nature has conspired to cancel our much anticipated Mayor's Cup match vs. West Hill CC in Albany, NY. The core of the West Hill club are former members of Tri-City who broke away to form their own club last year, and although we played a few friendlies with them last year, THIS year we were hoping to ratchet up the prestige a bit by inviting the mayors of both Albany, Jerry Jennings, and Schenectady, Al Jurczynski, to attend the match. We were also planning on this being an annual event, with trophies and all the trimmings, but it will have to be later this season.
It's probably all for the best, though, since it was unclear if Mayor Jennings would even be able to make it. I'm proud to say that Schenectady Mayor Jurczynski was all set to be there, fresh off his tour of Guyana in April. Mayor Al even talked about cricket last weekend at the Schenectady Library, where he gave a presentation on the country of Guyana. He was lucky enough to have seen some of the Australia-West Indies Test while he was down there, and now states that he understands the game much better than before....
Oh well, we'll see if we can do it later this season. For now, we sit in dismal, gray, rainy conditions, temps hovering in the low 60's F.... Not exactly a great way to kick off the unofficial start of summer here in the U.S. (Memorial Day weekend typically is the first three day weekend of the "summer" season here, but it's anything but summer-like this year....).
At least there's some cricket to watch today... Australia vs. West Indies in Trinidad....
