Press Release
Mashonaland have appointed new Coach Eric "Rik" Heath with immediate effect. Mashonaland Press Officer Peter Malaka has this to say to the waiting press:
"A few months ago the club were contacted by the chairman if the WCC (World Club Cricket) League about playing in the competition. Mashonaland, having a limited domestic calender, agreed straight away feeling that it would be a great chance to put Zimbabwe Cricket on the world map and also give their players some experiance of playing against some of the top sides in the world."
When asked about the appointment of Eric "Rik" Heath as manager Malaka had this to say:
"Rik is a new and exciting choice as the Coach of Mashonaland, he is young and very enthusiastic and we feel he is the perfect choice to guide the team to World Success in the future"
Malaka also had this to say about his expectations for the new season:
"We understand our position and the strength of our squad, and this being our 1st year in the competition we are not expecting great things but we think that the squad is strong enough to cause some upsets against such teams as Guyana, Jamaca and Karachi. Due to the lack of One Day cricket played in Zimbabwe we are hoping to learn more about this side of the game since only Craig Evans has much experiance of the One Day game. This season will be a learning experiance for us in every way."
Malaka tipped the Petal Brothers, Craig Evans, Brighton Watambwa, Barney Rodgers, and Gus MacKay to spring a surprise or two. He also confirmed that Andy Petal, the Wicketkeeper/Batsman would be captain this year with Rodgers as his Vice-Captain.
