manager reports for this round

The Argonaut

State Vice-Captain
The bottom of the table clash between Tasmania and Glamorgan was a do or die battle and unfortunately Glamorgan got smashed.

Tasmania batted first. Wasim Akram took the prized wicket of Jamie Cox off the first ball of the day trapped in front. Dene Hills only contributed 8 before Parkin also got a favourable lbw verdict, 2/16. Parkin also got Ponting for 21 and when Marsh went off Dale for 16 it looked like Glamorgan would come out on top, 4/88. Unfortunately Di Venuto and Young took away any advantage and put on 164 for the 5th wicket in quick time smashing the bowlers all over the park. A couple of stiff rumbos to Akram and Parkin at the last dricks break couldn't stop the rot. Wharf bowled Di Venuto for 125 but it was too late. Young finished unbeaten on 100 as Tasmania amassed 5/298 off its 50 overs. Parkin took 2/71 and Cosker was the most economical with 0/45.

The wickets fell steadily during the Glamorgan innings and Young couldn't stay out of the action. Hemp 22, Newell 4, I Thomas 12, Cherry 36, Maynard 69 fell at regular intervals and even a quick fire 33 off 18 balls by Cosker batting at 11 couldn't get Glamorgan close as they folded for 216. Young took 3 wickets and 2 catches. Tasmania won by 82 runs and not surprisingly Young was man of teh match.

After the match the Glamorgan manager was asked how his side could improve. His reply was that obviously the rum wasn't working and a new spirit would need to be found urgently. Maynard is the only guy playing well so we'll keep him on the rumbos.

LANCASHIRE v WARWICKSHIRE.

Prior to this round, these sides were vying for the chance to become the forerunner amongst the English teams, both sides having won two of their first three fixtures.

Lancashire batted first and piled on 280/7 with a magnificent century to Dravid and an impressive debut from makeshift opener T.Roberts who scored 60 from 60 balls.
At 238/7, there was a danger that the innings could fall away, but Yates and Martin put on an unbeaten 42 run stand to see Lancashire through to 280/7.
M.Betts was the standout bowler for Warwickshire with a tight 2/39 off 10 overs.

Knight(32) and Ostler(54) got the visitors off to a great start, but once they went, only S.Pollock(30) put up a fighting effort as Warwickshire were dismissed for 194.
The Lancashire spinners did most damage with the promising G.Maiden taking 3/23 from 7 and G.Yates taking 3/40 from 9.
Dravid was named man of the match.

Manager GrahamB said after the match that it was a great sign for Lancashire's future that the youngsters T.Roberts and G.Maiden had been major contributors to the side's success to date. With some of Lancashire's best players nearing the end of their playing days, young talent emerging would be vital to ongoing success said GrahamB.

Look out Queensland! We're coming for you! 8D

All Time Legend
After an amazing victory last week, Tasmania was look to win two in a row. And this looked impossible after Jamie Cox bagged his second duck in two digs (a third ball and now a golden) 1-0.

Hills came and went for 8 (2-16), then Ponting last weeks saviour was caught by a nice catch was Wasim Akram for 21 (3-46). Marsh then was also caught for 16 and Tassie was realing at 4-88.

In came Shaun Young who with Di Venuto, smashed aroung the Glamorgan defence with Akram and Parkin both receiving some cruel punishment(1-70 and 2-71 off 10 overs).

Di Venuto getting 125 off 139 before being balled of what apeared to be a No-Ball in replays. But the damage had already been done and with Young (100*) they had added 168 in even time.

Fill-in keeper Clingeleffer scored 13 off 12 and brought the score to 5-298 at the end of the innings. The Panda's highest score this season, was good effort by the team.

Chasing a huge total of 299 to win, Glamorgan started with a quick flurry, but Hemp was steam rolled by a Denton quick ball for 22 (1-48). Newell and Thomas both followed quickly, for 4 and 12 (3-105).

When Young got his 3rd wicket (Maynard for 69) Glamorgan were struggling at 4-144 :O
Then the wheels really fell off the Glamorgan wagon. Evans, Dale, Wharf, Akram and Parkin all failed (12, 0, 17, 2 and 0) and only Cherry with 36 and number eleven Cosker 33*(18) showed any grit and in the end Glamorgan crumbed to be all out for 216.

The bowling side how ever had a brilliant day with only one bowler failing to play well. Wright(2-30), Denton(1-42), Saker(3-57) and Young(3-26) all played well.

Man of the Match was easily awarded by Pakistan selector Jarofvege Imite given to Shaun Young with his 3-26(10), 100* and two catches.

TAS: 5-298(50) [M.DiVenuto 125(139), S.Young 100*(96), D.Parkin 2-71(10)]
GLAM: 216 All Out [M.Maynard 69(87), D.Cherry 36(42), D.Cosker 33*(18), D.Saker 3-57(8), S.Young 3-26(10)]
MOM: S. Young (TAS)
RESULT: Tasmanian Pandas by 82 runs.

WA V QLD
It's happened once again. 1 side of our game fires and the other one flops. This time our trusty bowlers got belted around as Queensland chased down our 243 with an over to spare. Pretty happy with our batting but think that we need to score our runs quicker. Overall I haven't been happy with our start to the season but all we need to do is string a few good games together and this match is where we have started.
Thank You

****nsw v mumbai*** one of the clashes of the round

well nsw batted first and got off to an o.k start. all batsmen getting amongst the runs with only brad haddin not really going on with his start 18(26). bevan again the hero with the bat for nsw with an unbeaten 89(94) with him dominating nsw where looking at a very good total. also captain steve waugh and his brother mark getting amongst the runs with mark 47 (63) and steve showing promising signs with 51(76).
nsw only loosing the 3 wickets and putting up a defendable total of 3 - 245

nsw went on the attack knowing they needed early wickets and that is what they got. mumbai 1 - 19 , 2 - 40, 3 - 55 and steve waugh was looking sort of confident.when tendulkar and Paranjpe hit quick fire 40(53) and 39(41) it was a game for the taking, mumbai had moved to 6 - 158. with not too many overs left to quick innings by R.Morris 31(19) and R.Powar 38(24) , and they ensured that mumbai would grab victory in the 49th over with only 3 wickets in hand. what a mgic game with all the spectators seeing some magic batting performances.

once again nsw struggled to defend a reasonable total with the gun bowling attack and mcgill not in his usuall form.b lee the pick with 1 - 21 of his 10 overs. all the rest going for 50 odd each.

we intervied bugssy malone coach of the blues after the game
commentator: bugssy , a disapointing end to a hard days play
bugs: yer look we had every chance to win this game and got ourselves in a really good position but credit to the opposition who hung in there and batted well towards the end, but lookto play wel and loose is better than to play bad and get flogged, and look its good to see some other ppl puttingthere hands up to do some batting or bowling which has been a little disapointing of late.

but to mumbai coach, well done.

to my boys, a long way to go yet boys.

thankyou

commentator: thankyou bugs and back to u in studio.

Yorkshire v Hampshire

Yorkshire needed a victory to get off the bottom of the table. And it looks like they did it with ease.
After bowling first for the second week in a row, Yorkshire bowled the opposition out for less than 100. This week Silverwood doing the damage.
What seemed to be an easy score turned out to be a struggle after being 2-6 a top score by McKenzie of 28 guided Yorkshire to a 3 wicket win.
This from the Yorkshire manager after the game:
Q:Has batting become a problem?
A: Yep, we have wickets when we bowl, everyone can bowl well but we have a problem batting. I think there might be a few changes next week.
Q: How is Hoggard?
A: He hurt his but. I think while he was feilding but he will be back in a few weeks. His arse is fairly large and can easily rest for the next few weeks.
Q:What about next weeks game?
A: We will have to bat gooder cause it sucks. We were lucky to get a win but lots of improving is needed.
Jason the manager was indeed agrevated as he stormed out after we asked him if it was true that he and britney spears are seeing each other.
Next weeks game will be a big game to stop relegation from biting

TN Vs ND

Spectators expecting a good entertainer from the recently concluded TN vs ND match got their money's worth to see the consistant batsman Sharath blistering performace once again.

Here's what the TN's manager has to say:

I'm pleased to see the consistency in Sharath's performance which brought us to where we are now in the standings. On the other side, I'm not too happy with our bowlers which needs some serious chnages because of the injury to our front-line bowler T.Kumaran. Man-of-the-match S.Mahesh showed his class with both the bat and the ball. ND top-order batsmen were too good for TN's bowlers for their bottom order simply could'nt fetch enough runs to give a nail-biting finish. Our boys are in top form and eager to go and make it to the top of the division.
Go TAMIL NADU.......

Kent - AO 108 :O :(
Somerset - 109/3

The Kent team arrived at the ground with high hopes for the day ahead knowing a win could take them to the top of the leauge, however things didn't quite go to the plan and Kent were left with red faces after being bolwed out for a laughable 108, with only R.Key 43 (52) and J.Hockley 30* (54) getting going and scoring a respectable score, with the next best being 11. P.Trego of Somerset was the star of the innings which destoryed the Kent middle order taking a fine figures of 8-33-6.

Any hope that it was the pitch that was offering extra assisstant was blown out the window stright away when M.Trescothick 38 (43)and A.Flower 26 (20) put on a 41 run opening partnership. When the first wicket fell things didn't get any better for the Kent team as P.Bowler 29 (51) came to the middle and looked very comfortable for his 29 before offering a simple caught and bowled to M.Felming. K.Parsons 10* (26) & M.Burns 0* (1) then scored the few runs required for victory, even with the loss of the 3 wickets Somerset never looked in trouble and took a derseved victory.

MOM - P.Trego
Somerset won by 7 Wkts

Kent are still looking good 2 points for the top of the table despite the loss.

A great bowling performance from N.Hauritz with 3/44 of 10 overs keeping the western Australian total under 250.
In Reply Queensland Did it with ease Brillant 105 of 133 balls by jimmy Maher and a 57 of 64 balls from matty hayden guided the bulls to victory a great all round performance form the boys
