Arjun
Cricketer Of The Year
A lot of mediamen, ex-players, co-players and fans rate Laxman very highly. With good reason. He is a good timer of the ball, can play a long innings, and has a good average in Tests. One of the better batsmen in international cricket. A true stylist. The batsman's performance in the home series v/s NZ and in the recent series in Australia showed how good a player he is.
However, Laxman in one-dayers seems a different player- in fact, not even close to Test form. As against in Tests, where he averages in the 40's and has a few 100's, with a lot of 50's, his ODI average is just 27.77, with just 2 centuries and 7 50's. Along with a strike rate in the 60's. Whenever he plays one-day cricket, he struggles. Could someone explain why? He is a much better player than some of the so-called one-day specialists like Yuvraj, Kaif and ESPECIALLY Dinesh, who was just not the right person for a World Cup team, ahead of Laxman.
