I give it to Lara, because Windies with that side had very little right to beat Australia. India at home have only lost at once to Australia since the early 70s I think. Yes, I know Windies had a long period of being nigh on unbeatable in the Caribbean, but by the late 90s they were a pale shadow of what they were. I was in Australia at the time of that Lara innings and it was preposterous.

Go with Laxman because it turned around an Indian team with a very mediocre track record and created a legacy

Laxman's knock came whilst following on, from a deficit of -270 odd, batted a whole day against an ATG Australian attack and turned around India's fortunes in cricket.

I don't think I'll ever forget that series ever in my life, Australia really was back then an ATG team.
