In terms of bowling: Kapil>Jadeja>>Shakib
In terms of batting(tough to compare, Jadeja and Kapil bat much lower than Shakib): Shakib>Kapil>=Jadeja
In terms of fielding: Jadeja=Kapil>Shakib
Overall: Kapil>Jadeja>=Shakib

Liking and revisiting this thread, as I love the poll format.

And also I think Jadeja has already surpassed Kapil Dev as a Test all-rounder, which seems to be a bit of a hot take given the poll results which indicate 11 to 4 in favor of Kapil.

Strangely, in CW's most recent ranking of all rounders a year or two ago, I think Shakib was placed ahead of Kapil.

Ha, yep just checked it - Shakib came in at number 6, Kapil at 7. Both ahead of Faulkner (Aubrey, not James) at number 8. Personally, I'd reverse that order.

Test cricket:-

1. Sobers
2. Imran
3. Kallis
4. Botham
5. Miller
6. Kapil
7. T Greig
8. Jadeja

In white ball cricket, Shakib and Stokes both way ahead of Jadeja.

I really disagree on the thought of Sobers or Kallis being really great all-rounders, for the top of such a list. Their bowling is really inadequate for them to be considered that, for mine. But that is not what determines their overall greatness as Test cricketers, for mine. That tends to do more with their primary skill. So greatest out of the "all-round cricketers" should be Sobers or maybe Hadlee (not going to bother comparing them), but the greatest all-rounder to me is Imran, as he is the all-rounder out of these who was a frontline bowler for most of his career AND had the best batting out of this group of all-rounder.

But is the "best allrounder" really what we want in our team, all-time or otherwise, if we can pick only one of them? I'd argue not. I'm always picking Hadlee over Imran, Pollock over Miller, heck even Ashwin over Botham. Those guys better lock down the single bowling slot they are assigned to, while still being able to contribute with the bat.

Imran over Hadlee for a no.7/8 spot.

Hadlee the better bowler throughout his career than Imran for mine. I'm taking that over the extra batting of the more "rounded" all-rounders in each of the individual cases I've laid out, is the theme of that post.

Not a big fan of RSA ARs, other than Kallis?
