I mean Shami hasn't done well away from home either. There are 6 Indian bowlers with 80+ away wickets. 5 of them average above 30 there, Bumrah avgs below 20. It's ridiculous.

Kapil has a slightly better match factor as Shami (1.09 vs 1.05). He was the leader of the pace attack, and bowled around 6-7 more overs per game than Shami had to. Also has much more longevity, greater fitness.
Kapil ahead for me.

Kapil Dev

* Played for much longer time

* Legacy - First proper fast bowler from India in 5 decades

* He was a lone wolf

* His record in WI was very good
1st series : 17 wickets @ 24
2nd series : 18 wickets @ 21 with 2 5-Fers

* His record in Aus was just as good
1st series : 14 wickets @ 23 with 2 5-Fers
2nd series : 12 wickets @ 23
3rd series : 25 wickets @ 25

Against the best team of his generation and arguably the greatest team ever; Kapil Dev took 89 wickets at an average of 24.90.

Shami in Eng underperformed massively .
Each ball were looking scary due to wild swing and seam movement.
And He was able to generate massive amount swing and seam but no control over the line and length.

That must mean his record everywhere else was ass though, no?

Who is this Ramaraj?

Seems like he just discovered his cricinfo stats and decided to tweet about it.
Might be controversial, but Kapil's away record is overhated. The only place he flopped completely is NZ. Great in WI and Australia, good in England (as an all-rounder, not a bowler. As a bowler his English record is poorish, but he makes up with his batting. Dude has 3 MoTM and a MoS there, helping India in a Series win), fine in Pakistan (bowling is actually good, underperformed with the bat) and a Great century in 3 games in SA. Not pretty numbers, but deep dive and it's a perfectly good away record.

Don't get how that can be controversial.
