From Jan 1st 1995huh
what are his stats 1995 forward? he was awful for the first year of his career
his SA record I can see as a flaw, other two? not so muchFrom Jan 1st 1995
McGrath in SL : 3 Tests. 6 wickets. Avg of 35.
McGrath in Pak : 3 Tests. 12 wickets. Avg of 29.
McGrath vs SA : 14 Tests. 51 wickets. Avg of 26.
his SA record I can see as a flaw, other two? not so much
Really fighting the urge to make a parody of your argument against O Reilly and England but with Steyn and Asia this time.McGrath having just one 5-Fer in 17 matches in Asia is not that impressive.
I rate McGrath over Steyn but the latter can win matches single handedly in Asian pitches unlike McGrath.
100% agreeRegardless, Steyn is better in India/Sri Lanka/Pakistan but I'd take McGrath outside those countries very easily.
Not really. But okay.McGrath destroys Donald.
Marshall had his bulk of career in a relatively short span compared to the likes of McGrath, Hadlee and MuraliEvery great bowler with the possible exception of Marshall has some flaw in their record. That’s why I said if Bumrah can get to 300+ Tests wickets at an average below 21 and can improve his record against NewZealand, he has an argument for being Top 3 or even the best ever.
Yea as great as Bumrah is, I don’t think he’ll really ever reach McGrath/Marshall level although I’ve joked about it before. Quality of batting is really starting to decline because of T20sBowling records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPNcricinfo.com

just how bowling friendly is this era? Bowling average in Bumrah's games is 26.8 compared to McGrath's 31.9
Let’s say he ends up withYea as great as Bumrah is, I don’t think he’ll really ever reach McGrath/Marshall level although I’ve joked about it before.

Marshall didn't have the perfect record in NZ either. He averages in 30s or something.Let’s say he ends up with
75 Tests. 330 wickets. Average of 19.8.
And he has an ATG series in NZ(only flaw in his record)
Everything I think. Poor bats, good bowlers, and bowling friendly pitches.Just how poor the batting is?
Exactly.Yea as great as Bumrah is, I don’t think he’ll really ever reach McGrath/Marshall level although I’ve joked about it before. Quality of batting is really starting to decline because of T20s
Still should end up in the top 10 though
3 matches while dealing with a back injury, while the others retired or were sent home. Only reason he played.Marshall didn't have the perfect record in NZ either. He averages in 30s or something.
All bowlers have at least one country where things never work out despite best of efforts.
Yeah. This is not a bad time to be a pacer.Everything I think. Poor bats, good bowlers, and bowling friendly pitches.
