Dravid was a key player in most of India's big wins. vs Pak, vs Aus, vs Eng and won India matches.

I thought subshakerz biggest gripe with Kallis was that he didn't really help SA win. Surprised to see him winning this poll by such a big margin.

I guess he's proving his detractors wrong :p

I don't think the margin between them is huge, but I believe Kallis do have a more well rounded record.

Dravid’s best 100 was the 148 in Headingley in 2002. It was very challenging swinging conditions and a good bowling attack in Caddick, Flintoff, Hoggard and Tudor. He got India into a position where Tendulkar and Ganguly could cash in and it was a historic victory (first by India in England in 17 years).

Adelaide, Rawalpindi probably next two because they were doubles both led to historic wins in places India hadibt won in two plus decades.

It’s why I rate Dravid higher. Kallis wins out statistically but Dravid had MANY more big moments.
from a historic perspective for India these Innings are better.

I am confused how Laxman 281 can be arguably the best innings of all-time yet Dravid's 180 in that partnership doesn't get even in his top 3 innings. Doesn't make any sense.

No it's close. Kallis has a marginally better record IMO and I don't think he had as many issues with pace and bounce that Dravid did.

My big problem with Dravid is his records in Aus and SA. He only has one good tour out of four in both countries.and one hundred in each country. Given that these are the two toughest opponents he faced it is kind of hard to let that go.

Kallis wasn't great in England but at least had a couple of good tours and hundreds. He did well against McWarne in Australia too and his home record in SA is exemplary.

A Valid point - Dravid’s 180 was more tough as India was forced to follow on and he played entire Day 4 with Laxman against McGrath, Gillespie and Warne.

of course there’s a case it’s a top three innings of his career, but tbh I watched the whole damn thing on a grainy early days live stream in NY and I remember about 20 shots VVS played and none from Dravid so he was overshadowed.

and it was a great win, but arguably Headingley, Adelaide and Pindi all meant more

He was not overshadowed but Dravid was playing a supporting Innings and Laxman was taking the lead. In Leeds it was opposite Dravid was playing the role Laxman played in Kolkata and Sanjay Bangar was supporting Dravid.

None of those other innings comes close to the match situation and attack in Calcutta 2001, nor were those wins as significant. Just because Laxman overshadowed Dravid doesn't mean that Dravid's innings objectively wasn't a once-in-a-career quality knock.

the away wins were absolutely more significant

I mean, so what if it was a supporting role. He still scored 180 against that attack in that match situation.
