I reckon when one is decisively better it means it's not very close and when reasonable arguments can be made for either side but you agree with a specific one then it's close.

Tbh it all boils down to what you mean by close.
They are close in a sense that all top 10 batters are close in quality. It's not close in a sense that It feels wrong to swap the two in my ranking.
