J Buttler Vs B Stokes

Stokes with a fabulous 2019 WC, played innings under pressure against Aus, Sri L. The innings of his life, pulling England out from certain defeat in the WC final.

Stokes, remembered for his Ashes hundred and another hundred against lords Vs Aus.

Buttler, played that magnificent 140 Vs Sri L at lords, the hundred in the one wicket one against Australia, the hundred against Pak at Nottingham in the 2019 WC and of course the 50 in the final under extreme pressure.

Which one would you have in the team?

I assume most of your comparisons are for ODIs; in which case it's Butler easily. As for Tests, it's really a no contest for Stokes by a huge margin....

Though, in a limited overs game, if my team was under the cosh (e.g., several wickets down but with a not insignificant number of overs remaining, and I had to pick a batsman to bat with the tail to chase a total down) I could envisage circumstances when I would perhaps opt for Stokes over Buttler.

There are definitely specific conditions, but as a whole, Butler is just better in ODIs. Like, there are situations when you will prefer Butler in your Test team over Stokes....

However there are situations in odis were you'd rather have Stokes.

Bit of a weird thread because the only way it even makes sense to compare them is in ODIs but the opening post also mentions stuff Stokes did in Tests.
