International Cricket 2010

Somerset

Cricketer Of The Year
Just to avoid ambiguity, this game is not the same as International Cricket Captain (ICC) - it seems to be part of the Codemasters/Brian Lara cricket series.

This is the sequal to Codemasters' Ashes Cricket 2009. The same engine but will only be released for PS3/360 at the moment.

This games been out awhile now my copy came last week. It's not bad, alot like the old one but the difficulty is abit harder (can still slog it but lose more wickets, bowling seems better the opponents actually make 150+ in t20s but in tests (i've only played aus v pakistan) so far the pakistanis highest score is 200 and i've bowled them out for under 100 once, and 150ish twice.

Anyone else got hold of this yet?

I am currently working through CW's review copy and, admittedly having come into it with dreadfully low expectations after struggling through Ashes 09, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised and enjoying playing it. Yes, there are niggles, but first impressions are that it actually feels like you're playing real cricket, which has never been the case before.

Look forward to a full review, with obligatory Ian Bell jokes, by the end of the weekend.

Keen to hear what you have to say about the new camera. What console are you playing it on?

PS3.

I think I'm going to be nice to the new camera angle, particularIy following one particular paragraph in my review of Ashes 09 (here - or you can googlewhack it with "sweet potato" "neil pickup"): "I don't really feel that it's too much to ask for progress in the space of a decade. Wouldn't it be worth a shot with a new batting camera angle, for instance, instead of watching from fifteen feet above the umpire's head as always? Or, at the very least, a single player game that feels like cricket."

You play online at all? Depending on your review I might look at getting a copy :p

Nah, I don't have proper internet access set up in my flat yet (hence the fact that I'm never on messenger). It is on my to-do list for the summer but it keeps on not being done. Need to get a BT line fitted for £150; that's the stumbling block...

£150? Ouch. I haven't been in for months but that's because my step dad is a ****. Could lug it to my dad's if needed to though.
Give me a shout if you get it sorted.

International Captain
Got my copy last week. I've got it on Xbox 360 and I think it's one of the more realistic cricket games to come out in recent times. I've only really dabbled in T20's so far but the way the game plays is pretty good. You can still slog a lot but you will invariably end up losing wickets and you do need to judge your shots a little better.

I was England and was facing Australia at The Brit Oval on a decent track. I ended up getting 183 all out in about 18 overs. Luke Wright top scored with 45 but everyone else chipped in with 20's and 30's. For Australia the best bowler was Mitchell Johnson and James Hopes took the most stick which seems accurate enough.

I had a really good start with the ball with James Anderson only conceding around 8 runs in his first 3 overs. I ended up taking a couple of wickets with Jimmy which was a good bonus. Bowling is probably a little more challenging this year. For me Broad and Bresnan were generally rubbish but I did end up taking a couple of wickets with Bresnan.

I had Australia struggling for a while but towards their last 5 overs, they really turned it on. Brad Haddin and James Hopes combined to blast a good 20 runs per over for the last 5 overs to overtake my target in the final over. They ended up with 7/184. Overall it was probably the most realistic game I've had on International Cricket 2010 and I had a lot of fun playing it as well.

How does this game compare to the Ashes version from last year? I have the Ashes game on Wii and just got annoyed with all the niggles it has. It the new version markedly better/improved on?

I did think it odd how badly finished-off the Ashes game was, especially when it's the same people who brought out Brian Lara Cricket years ago which was a wonderful game. It seemed to me that the Ashes game was rushed out without the developers having the time or resources to put the care and attention in that it deserved.

Yes, I bought it on the Wii, and sent it back the next day - really bad game. On other consoles (and the PC) it's a lot better.

I just recently got this game a couple of days ago since I'm in NZ it only just came out. It seems pretty decent. I can't wait to play some games online (playing a test match online will be fun but obviously I need the time and the other person needs the time)
