?

if jadeja played for Australia at the same time as lyon, then he'd have played over 100 tests, as would have lyon.

oooh. im trying to be a smartass, but you got me. the number would be however many tests lyon has played at the scg and the subcontinent. possibly more because jadeja would likely be in as the all rounder in others.

This also depends on if they are going to prefer left arm orthodox bowler and a right arm off spinner. Personally think right arm leg spinners and left arm orthodox bowlers are more valuable but it's just me. Also Jadeja is a more than reliable lower middle order batsman. So jadeja should've got more tests than Lyon.

Lyon would've been binned instantly if Jadeja was playing for Australia tbh. Far less valuable of a player.

I think they’d play Jadeja and Lyon in the SC and Marsh/Green (if they’d been consistent enough) with Lyon/Jadeja outside of it.

Its difficult to tell since they were both brought up as spinners in such different countries as to whether it’d be worth it to take Jadeja over Lyon. Jadeja has been pretty poor in England for example, which along with India (where both would play) is the most important touring country. So yeah difficult to say.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah, but I also think they may have played Jaddu a lot more in Australia than Lyon.

To answer this seriously, the fact that Starc and Cummins #canbat makes this tricky. If they had 3 Hazlewood level batters, then Jaddu plays everytime over Lyon if they play only one spinner.

Yeah its hard to tell though, considering Jadeja’s only played at the SCG and MCG.

Plus I mean Australia’s batting is already ridiculous at home, they might find the batting advantage superfluous. I think it would depend also on who had established themselves in the team first. (assuming in this case it would play out normally that would be Lyon)

Not so sure about Aussie batting really. There no 6/7 always seems just alright and Jadeja can be a better bat than most of them. I mean, is Marsh really a better enough player anywhere? Does his bowling really is more impactful in a fast pitch? I highly doubt that.

Might depend if Jadeja can score triples in the Shield.

Lyon wouldn't ever have debuted with any half-decent spin option ahead of him IMO. Averaging 34 at the next level down doesn't cut it, and his contemporaries SOK averaging 25 and Holland 32 would have probably prevented his inclusion on SC tours. It was unlikely enough that Lyon was discovered by Australia in this version of events, much less with Jadeja in the way.
