Holland and European cricket

Favourites for to qualify for the ICC CT? I say yes.

If they qualify, perhaps good enough at some point for ICC ODI membership?

I'm kind of hoping Denmark make it.

I often wonder why the Italian Cricket Association dont use Christian Vieiri to help market the game their and promote it?

He grew up in Australia is apprantly a cricket fan, and every football fan in Europe and Italy and around the world has heard of him. Maybe his comittments to Inter and Italy get in the way.

If I had my way I would ask him.

Is there much following for Cricket there, Craig? I think the ICC should first try to develop the game in Countries where there is interest for Cricket. At present Asia for me and also Kenya. I read from Kenyan papers that the awareness for Cricket has grown and that it is being played more. This is best time for ICC to work there but i don't think ICC are capable of it sadly:(

Cricket will always be a "backdoor" sport in Holland to be honest with football and cycling being the two dominate sports really. And plus the weather conditions there as well.

Cricket will have potential just about everywhere.
The task is identifying where this potential is greatest.

He is indeed. I remember seeing an interview a few years back when he said that Allan Border is his sporting hero.

Probably the greatest in Holland IMO.

Don't forget hockey. The Dutchies are crazy about that.

And speed skating - which is also viewed as quite a longwinded sport to outsiders. Definitely got potential in Netherlands :D

Is that the no.1 sport in Norway?

What standard of cricket is played in Norway? I would imagine it would be hard to get pitches organised because of the weather?

Nope, speed skating's not. Used to be, but we're crap at it now, so most people have deserted it...

Standard? Well, it's pretty good - Norway haven't lost a game yet :D (not much to be said for the opposition though - Greece, Austria and Malta are the best teams they've beaten) There are two pitches, but they appear to be waterlogged most of the time - one of them is just an artificial wicket laid out between two football pitches. Second pitch is actually an only-cricket pitches AFAIK, but it has a very soggy outfield and I believe that it isn't even flat, but slanted.

Do you have any indoor cricket arenas?
They are used, yes - but it's mainly a case of finding a hall with enough space that's free, setting up the stumps, and getting going. Nothing special.

Waking thread...

Netherlands just beat "Western Cape Academy" in a 3-day match in South Africa. Don't know the strength of that team, but still it's news...

No links because cricinfo is down atm.

Players per side: Netherlands 14 (11 bat, 11 field); Western Cape Academy 12 (11 bat, 11 field).

There you go it wasnt a FC match.
