Since watching Zimbabwe thrash The Gambia, I’ve been thinking about what we could do to help cricketers from emerging nations. What would be the most effective way to make a difference?
What would happen if we got a group of like-minded CricketWeb members together and offered our expertise to an emerging cricket board?
We have a genuinely passionate and engaged community of cricket people from around the world, with widely different backgrounds. For all our cynicism I think most of us genuinely do love cricket.
Obviously not everyone has coaching badges or similar but we all know a fair bit about the game. We know about technique, we know about mental preparation and fielding. Some of us have other off-field skills.
Even if we could not visit the country we chose to help, there are other things we could do, like donating kit or raising money.
This is by no means a fully developed proposal, I’m just curious to hear what people think about it.
I’ve previously toyed with doing some fundraising for Zimbabwe, but have been put off by the corruption there and time commitment.
