Habibul Bashar appointed Bangladesh captain

Adamc

Cricketer Of The Year
Habibul Bashar has finally been appointed captain, with Khaled Mahmud dumped not only from the captaincy but from the squad altogether. I personally think this (the change in captain) is a good move, simply because Habibul is one of few players in the squad who can hold a permanent place in the team. Hopefully the added responsibility will not adversely affect his batting. He has a huge opportunity to lead Bangladesh to their first test win, as his first series as captain will be against Zimbabwe. Any thoughts?

I have a feeling that his batting will drop off somewhat and I also don't think that Bangladesh can beat a fit Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh will have atleast a one good memorable victory . We all will see that

In the end it was a move for the better , I have few doubts Mahmud was the best captain in Bangladesh , but he isnt good enough to make the side & his poor performances as well as the tendancy to ridiculously overbowl himself were hurting the side.

Provided Bashar's batting isnt affected to badly the move should prove very fruitful.

It's a shame they didn't make Habibul Test captain and retain Mahmud for the ODIs.
IMO he has always merited an ODI place.

I think Bashar is the captain for both tests and one dayers..

All that's been named is the Test Squad... ODIs TBC :)
Dave Whatmore had said they would opt for just one captain and his words do seem to count in Bangladesh Cricket. So barring a huge turn around, Bashar shuold remain captain for tests and one dayers. BCB hasnt ruled out getting Mahmud in the team for the ODIs though..

Good move by appointing Habibul Bashar to the captaincy of the Bangladesh team.

Khaled Mahmud wasn't a good leader, its also a good thing that he was dropped as his performances weren't good anyhow.

IMO they will be routed by Zimbabwe, especially if guys like Taibu, Ervine and Price can keep progressing...
I hope Namibia give them a good run for their money too! :D

Yeah I reckon also that Zimbabwe will be too strong for Bangladesh especially with a top player like Heath Streak captaining Zimbabwe. Whilst Zimbabwe is not a top team, IMO they are miles ahead of Bangladesh.

I have seen some players playing for Bangladesh , They have skills and honestly they are fighters but what they need is strength and fitness . Cuz fitness and strength made so many ordinary players a world class player.

IMO Zimbabwe have in Flower, Wishart, Carlisle, Streak and Price what Bangladesh have in Bashar and Rafique (indeed Rafique is almost a carbon-copy of Price, or vice-versa). In Mortaza and possibly Sarkar they have Zimbabwe's equivalent of Ervine and Ewing.
I think Zimbabwe should win any series comfortably.

Good choice with the new captain and the dumping of the former one, although i can't help but saying...

NOT Khaled! Why o why did you have to dump him?!!? :( :!( :) :saint:

Mortaza is injured, and Ervine can bat..
I don't think he can bowl very well either.
I was comparing him to Sarkar - though the only similarity is that they bat. Nothing in the positions.
I thought he might be injured, couldn't remember how long he was out for.
