Greatest Ever One Day XI

Was watching this old program Cricket 2000 or someting like that and decided to start up a CW version of their team. It was from 1975 until 2000.

The team was:
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Sachin Tendulkar
Viv Richards
Dean Jones
Greg Chappell (C)
Clive Lloyd
Imran Khan
Richard Hadlee
Shane Warne
Wasim Akram
Joel Garner

NB. This is just a rough idea of the team selected.Batting order may not exactly be correct. When you're deciding you XI please note that the eligibilty years are 1975 to present. Therefore Bradman is not a choice. Also, the logis is 5 batsmen, 2 all rounders, 1 wicketkeeper/batsman(not just wicketkeeper), 1 spinner and 2 fast bowlers.

3 specialist bowlers and 2 all rounders, but with Lee and Saqulain and 9 and 10 the batting goes almost all the way down. would move bevan down to 9 if setting a total as everyone else sscores very fast

Any all-time ODI side would have to have Bevan at three or four.

well not mine :p

seriously he takes more time to get started than playerws like Ponting, Lara or Richards and doesn't have the ability to really get after the bowlers and hit boundaries or 6's at the same rate as them.

sorry in an alltime team, Richards OWNS the #3 spot and i will have to play lara at #4. Period.
I am surprised very few mentioned Akram,Garner or Younis...they were three of the best ODI bowlers.

my alltime XI:

Tendulkar
Gillchrist(wk)
Richards
Lara
Bevan
Rhodes
Shaun Pollock
Wasim Akram
Joel Garner
Muttiah Muralitharan
Glenn McGrath

I believe this is the perfect fit for an ODI......reason i picked Pollock over klusenser is because i am going with 5 bona-fide bowlers and Klusener's bowling on an alltime scale is nothing hoo-haa....plus Pollock can score at a good clip slogging away...
Rhodes over Kallis since i cant find a position for Kallis up the order and Kallis is a notoriously slow starter.....cant have a #6 do that and Rhodes is good at pinching the single/smashing the ball around plus he makes up for it with 15-20 runs saved per match with his fielding.

This is my best XI since the 1975 world cup:

1.Tendulkar
2.Gilchrist - wicket-Kepper
3.Ponting
4.Richards * - Captain
5.Imran Khan
6.Bevan
7.Botham
8.Hadlee
9.Akram
10.Warne
11.Garner/McGrath (Its a tough one here)

Richards i have at 4 due to having punter at 3, mainly because Punter has a stronger opace preferance.

Akram i had in, Youniss would have been my next bowler it, i was going for strike power though with that spot and Lee is a better striker, also bats better.

Garner i thought about, but the main reason his record was so good is because of his ER, now if he was playing today that ER would be higher, so i went McGrath instead. again, i have seen an awful lot of McGrath and not that much of Garner so thats the main reason for that.

Not enough batting strength in that team for mine. Rhodes was never anything special in terms of batting ability and I can think of a dozen players I would rather have than him. Ponting or Dean Jones would be the best selection, but someone like Aravinda De Silva would be fine as well. Shaun Pollock isn't a good enough one day batsman to play at 7 in an ODI, where wickets might fall in the middle overs. Akram is fine at 8 because he's a good hitter, but 7 should be an all-rounders spot for someone who can make up 10 overs more often than not and can hit the ball well. Ideal choice would be Kluesener for me, but there are others who could go there as well. There's not much in terms of a second spinner to take the pace off in the middle overs in this side, but Richards did a good job in that role for the West Indies, and Tendulkar isn't too bad either.
