Since I don’t think SA records from that period really counted (nor do historians from that period, though tbf SA’s bowling is similar overall to Australias, but there batting is half as weak as the other two) these are the stats from the 1800’s for pacers in Aus vs Eng matches. (min 50 wickets)

George Giffen 31 matches 103 @ 27.09 7 5’fers 1 10’fer
Charlie Turner 17 matches 101 @ 16.53 11 5’fers 2 10’fers
Fred Spofforth 18 matches 94 @ 18.41 7 5’fers 4 10’fers
Tom Richardson 14 matches 88 @ 25.22 11 5’fers 4 10’fers
George Lohmann 15 matches 77 @ 13.01 5 5’fers 3 10’fers
Ernie Jones 14 matches 56 @ 27.12 3 5’fers 1 10’fer
Billy Barnes 21 matches 51 @ 15.54 3 5’fers

So basically focusing a bit more on the “main” 4 that people on here and more widely rate..

Turner 28.5 overs per innings, 51.2 SR
Spofforth 23.2 overs per innings, 44.5 SR
Richardson 31.1 overs per innings, 51.1 SR
Lohmann 18.2 overs per innings, 42.9 SR

(for comparison, Hadlee bowled 24.2 overs per innings)

Spofforth 1877-1887 (age 23-33)
Lohmann 1886-1896 (age 21-31)
Turner 1887-1895 (age 24-32)
Richardson 1893-1898 (age 23-27)

All four played just a couple of years before their first test. All of them bar Richardson retired straight away or played another season of FC. Richardson played 5+
