errrr

Sobers averages 10 over Barrington in that timeframe

DrWolverine

International Regular
Sobers played 53 matches.
Barrington played 80 matches.

Sobers played at lower down the order and thus has a higher percentage of not outs compared to Barrington who played mostly at number 3 & 4.

Batting position

Number 3 : 40 & 11

Number 4 : 44 & 22

Number 5 : 28 & 20

Number 6 : 10 & 30

Number 7 : 0 & 6

Still kinda underwhelming for peak NGL.
ngl I rate the 62 series because Davo was on fire, 33 wkts in 4 games type of fire and he made two tons on Davo, the home series is dissaponting though, also feel like the stats are kinda misleading in a sense because it's plainly from 1958-1968, at the end of 1968 Sobers was actually playing in Australia a 5 match series that would cross from december of 1968 to January of 1969.

The series scoreline for Sobers read

December 1968

2
36
19
67

Junuary/February 1969

49
36
110
52
13
113

so if you include the last 6 scores, his average becomes 44 vs Australia, 42.6 RPI while 46 avg in Australia and 4 tons in Australia, which is much better looking.

I do often feel when picking out a player’s peak/prime it should be evened out by series, rather than an arbitrary date. For example with Smith, you wouldn’t include Pak and NZ in 2019.

Tbf if you excluded not outs from most batsmen, their averages would take a serious hit.

iirc I did a post about runs per innings where everyone was banging on about it for a while. Both of them still average over 50 RPI. I believe the gap slightly increases in Barrington’s favour.

That was a pretty ordinary attack in the 68 series though, no? You tend to be particular about that.

And strange how you can rate a low 40s series from Sobers yet not from Tendulkar.

You really need to let the Sachin stuff go. No cricketer is above criticism.

don't really know why you think I discard everything with normal attacks/not ATG attacks.

only runs from Sachin that I don't really rate are runs against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh of the 2000s. I won't say making tons against Mckenzie or making tons against Johnson effect my views of an ATG bat comparision lol.
