Football Transfers To Be introduced

Rich2001

Just read that the ECB will be introducing a new transfer system for the County game as of next season that will be much the same as the way Football one works.

Here's the link to the full story Click here

Do you think it's a good idea or not?

And a few key points are:-

- Transfer system to be introduced, with ECB having "no objection" to fees being paid by counties.

- Transferred player to be "cup-tied" for rest of season if he has already appeared in C & G Trophy or Twenty20 Cup for previous county.

- County buying player during season must guarantee him contract for following year.

- Counties liable to fines of between £20,000 and £50,000 if they fail to follow transfer procedure.

- Informal approaches not permitted.

- Player who considers relationship with employers has "irretrievably broken down" may refer matter to mediator or arbitration panel.

- Two overseas players per county, but there will be no limit on total number used (maximum of four per county in 2003).

- Temporary replacements to be allowed for injured overseas players.

Well this seems to be the same way the NZ domestic teams are heading & im not sure if its for the good of the game.
We're going to see two teams have all the good players & the rest offer no competition what so ever.

by crap i mean, the strong get stronger and the weak get weaker.
Its just about impossible these days for a lowel league team to challenge the top sides. And its not the same with cricket, but it may end up that way.

Derbyshire sign Andy Flintoff for £500,000.

That's about a hundred grand per member.

Add to that he would only play about 5 games a season, so a fine investment there :D

But the second statment is very true, teams just don't have the money to transfer players, they (about half the Counties) only just have enough money to stay alive, the rest are all about £50,000+ in debt.

I wonder if we're getting close to the stage where we'll see English players playing for Indian domestic sides or New Zealand players playing in the West Indies competition.

I don't think so because with football in Europe all the countries are close enough to play the Champions league etc whereas there aren't enough competitive countries in cricket that could join forces for a competition like that.

I strongly doubt that. The WICB is very strict with the playing codes (as Gayle can tell you) and there's very little chance of a non-Jamaican playing for Jamaica or the like.

I don't think there's much chance of that to be honest - the money involved is not enough to move country full time for it.
