England One day squad should have a different shape within the next 4 years as the older player like Hussain, Knight and Caddick retiring and Gough and Stewart will retire in 4 years. England needs to blood younger players and Ben Smith.

Kabir Ali, James Anderson, Chris Tremlett, Ian Bell, Owais Shah together with Read and Troughtoin in the future will make the England 2007 squad and they need to start playing now. James Anderson was a Success in this world cup. England need to blood Youngsters and not be Afraid

2007 squad ( Prediction)

Marcus Trescothick, Micheal Vaughan, Ian Bell, Jim Troughton, Owasis Shah, Bail Shayhat, Paul Collingwood, Andy Flintoff, Chris Read, Ian Blackwell, Kabir Ali, Kadder Ali, Chris Tremlett, James Anderson, Leg spinner

oh course they could be a talent waiting to be Discovered

Ben Smith, No. We've gone over this so many times before...

I'm waiting for Kadeer Ali to show something at anything above U-19 level yet.

Why are the selectors obsessed with Owais being in the ODI side, when he's got a better FC record.

There will be severa who we've never heard of now getting an England cap before 2007.

So explain then Chris why if people such as Hussain, Knight and Caddick are retiring because they won't be around for the World Cup, England would then pick Ben Smith and leave him out in 4 years time?

Also, Collingwood is injured so won't be in and Tremlett will have to do one hell of a lot to get in at this stage. He may play Internationals at some stage but i would be more inclined to think of him as a Test player.

Interesting squad there, a few new names I haven't heard of.

I've seen Ben Smith play alot because of his involvement with Central Districts over the last 3 years or so. He batted consistently form them but I have a feeling he was on the wrong side of 30 now which is interesting considering that half this squad appears to be with the World Cup 2007 in mind.

I guess the other issue is that Alec Stewart is still in the side, I would have thought that because this series involves Zimbabwe & an out of sorts South African team that getting a new keeper in would be a good thing to do. I guess the selectors don't want to throw away all their experience just yet.

No backup wicketkeeper is interesting, no Read, no Foster.
And if Troughton is having such a good season, where is he?
I would've had Troughton instead of Ben Smith.

No Irani either, which is sort of expected. But I would've had Troughton in there, and a back up wicketkeeper.

But all in all, pretty decent squad with a few talented youngsters.
Good to see Bell getting a spot.

I think you mean Owais Shah....not Shahs. ;)

England are at home, so they should be able to draft in a replacement keeper if needs be, but I'm guessing they would look to Trescothick first.

Just to clarify for people, this is Chris' own selection for the squad, not the actual squad.

That squad won't be announced for at least a month.

Then Chris should've said so!!!

Thanks marc, for pointing that out. I thought this wasnt the real squad, as there hasnt been any hype at all about it.

Ohkay fair enough: Here is my two cents

I had a fright when i saw tremlett and smith in there! Thought that was a bit odd...

1.MP Vaughan (capt)
2.ME Trescothick
3.I Bell
4.GP Thorpe (He is batting for surrey and keen to get back in the ODI's)
5.PA Collingwood
6.CMW Read (wk)
7.A Flintoff
8.I Blackwell
9.R Clarke
10.C White
11.ARF Giles
12.D Gough
13.A Tudor
14.M Hoggard
15.J Anderson

Langveldt, I assume this is a first choice squad, since at least 2 of them are injured, and Gough must be doubtful now?

And what role do you invisage for Clarke? You've placed him with the all-rounders/utility players, but he's certainly not one of them!

The inclusion of classy Gough has brought back some respectability into the English bowling line up.Batting looks a bit inexperianced, but would probably do well.Oveall its a relatively better English team that is likely to do well in NW series!

I'm just hoping Ian Blackwell does more of what he's capable of and that Trescothick gets back into form (he's hit some good scores for Somerset so far, just need to see more).

Just one point I would like clearing up - Adam Hollioake. He had a phenominal season last year and is perhaps the best captain in county cricket, yet he hasn't really had a look in. Yes he and Nasser may not get on, but shouldn't they just sort themselves out for the sake of english cricket? I for one would like to see him captain England in one-dayers as he has the right attitude to move England towards better things (I think it would detract from Vaughan's form if he took on the captaincy and he would be better off concentrating on opening the batting).

Im not sure picking Adam Hollioake for captaincy is the right way to go for England, he has failed before & once he was dumped as captain he never got another look in much like Lee Germon.

We've already seen with Lara that re-electing someone who has been dumped as captain before doesn't always work..he's made some questionable calls so far against Australia.

But anyway good luck to him if he does become Captain again.

Excuse me, but how exactly did he fail?

6 wins out 14, and winning the Champions Trophy against India, Pakistan and the Windies looks to me like a good enough record.

Holliaoke was treated unfairly. His captaincy was quite good and his allround play was better than most which England have tried in recent times.

I really hope they choose Read as the OD Keeper, here are his stats this season:

3 FC Matches, 4 Innings, 2 NO, 220 runs, HS 94*, Average 110.00, 0 100s, 2 50s

2 OD Matches, 2 Innings, 1 NO, 119 runs, HS 119*, Average 119.00, 1 100, 0 50s

That after an impressive stint at the ECB Academy. He's opened the batting for Notts in OD games this season too. He's only 24! Please selectors give him another chance!

Knowing them they will go for Foster though.

Oh and Vaughan is now captain, it's amazing that the selectors don't see this as a major gamble, which it is, because not only does Vaughan lack recent captaincy experiance, but also his OD record is poor. Oh well, Nasser's record was similer before he was given the OD captaincy, he improved but not amazingly. I'd rather have a captain who is a proven OD performer rather than someone who is more of a Test player, it doesn't allways cross over.
