By batting depth, you mean one of Root or Brook needs to score a hundred to get a competitive score.England's batting depth pulling through. Need to aim for 450+.
Having watched the highlights now, safe to say that's the worst fielding day I've ever seen by an NZ side. Blundell's drop definitely the worst - not 100% sure NZ would've reviewed if it had been taken. It was Brook though, and NZ have 3 reviews, so I reckon Latham probably would've gambled one. Latham's drops in the slips were awful as well. Both were regulation, you'd expect a good slipper to grab them 9/10. Phillips drop in the gully was hit hard but regulation catching height. Conway had to make a lot of ground, but once he made it he had no excuse not to catch it. All 6 should've been taken. You might expect 1 or maybe 2 at most to go down, but 6 is a disgrace.Didn't see much of today's play but we dropped six catches ?? Will get my popcorn for the highlights.
Some symmetry with our batting effort in which we also gave England about six free wickets.
Capable support acts all the way down to 10. Much better chance of Pope scoring at 6 than 3. It's the thing I liked about this batting lineup. Depth.By batting depth, you mean one of Root or Brook needs to score a hundred to get a competitive score.
Yes he has O'Rourke had him caught behind in last week's match. Averages a middling 267. Small beer compared to Mariu's season average of 367, but undoubtedly a tidy effort.Disgrace from nz. I can't watch teams who drop catches.
England bring out the worst in us.
Blundell is guaranteed the entire series. Unbelievable.
BTW, Cleaver hasn't been dismissed a single time yet so far this PS season. Admittedly I don't know if he's dropped more catches than Blundell so far in 23/24.
glad we were able to do something, I thought we won't cross 200 when Root misjudged the ball.England's batting depth pulling through. Need to aim for 450+.
Going into the day's play I kept telling myself not to panic if we have a rough start (which was always likely) v the new ball because our batting depth is good and it gets significantly easier v the old ball, but it was hopping around everywhere in that first session and my friend from NZ said it was forecasted to be muggy all day.glad we were able to do something, I thought we won't cross 200 when Root misjudged the ball.
Lots of us at the ground feared the sameglad we were able to do something, I thought we won't cross 200 when Root misjudged the ball.
Nzc / spark, and tvnz who have inherited it, have the worst algorithm for their youtube highlights.Nz cricket hid all the drop catches in their highlights package of the days play
Yeah, I think it's very 50/50. England will need over 400 at least to be ahead as batting last will surely be tougher.A good day for England, Well done Harry Brook. Bethell looked all at sea and thankfully Pope played well so should be at Number 3 & a proper wicketkeeper will come in for the next test. New Zealand are still in this and its a 50/50 test IMO

And if the catches had been taken we'd be having very different discussions about that day. The Bethell selection still looks ridiculous.
I'll definitely give the bat to Atkinson and Carse before WoakesGoing into the day's play I kept telling myself not to panic if we have a rough start (which was always likely) v the new ball because our batting depth is good and it gets significantly easier v the old ball, but it was hopping around everywhere in that first session and my friend from NZ said it was forecasted to be muggy all day.
Thankfully the sun came out and Brook&Pope went to work. Hope Stokes can get some runs tonight. Can't see Woakes lasting long v O'Rourke. I'd bat Carse at 8 rather than 10.
3rd innings is the most batsman friendly. England need a proper lead. They have a good chance. Be ruthless.this is NZ, it's usually the opposite
Agree. Don't trust Woakes with the bat anymore.I'll definitely give the bat to Atkinson and Carse before Woakes
We couldn't chase down 250 odd in the 4th innings last year. Anything over 300 would be game over.this is NZ, it's usually the opposite
