End of Season Managers Reports

Umpire Money

State Vice-Captain
I thought it would be good to get all the managers to give a report on their season, the draft, and future games.

I got the team after 4 or 5 games. We were on the bottom with one win.
We got on a roll in the middle of the season winning 7 from 8 games(including the CA cup) with the outstanding players being Hamilton and Gough. The end of the season was alot like the start losing the last 4.

The problem i found was our batsmen werent supporting our great bowlers.
McKenzie started the season well but then got 4 straight ducks and Blakey started the season **** house and ended in a blaze.

In the draft all im looking for is batsmen. THats it.

Next season i found out that i will be in div 1 for both 4 day and 1 day which is a grand effort.
If our batsmen improve we can go all the way but we might have to wait another season before we get some really good batsmen to back up our bowlers.

Best Player: Hamilton(for sure)
Upcomer: Silverwood

Acheivments
5th in league - a good effort not to get relegated.
Runner up in cup - an easy path through to final and i was proud but as soon as we came up against quality we fell through.

I had the team all season. And it didn't do any good, we sucked and then sucked some more. We, We SUCKED! Well what else can you say, WE SUCKED! The end of the season was alot like the start with Tasmania sucking.

The problem I found was that our bowlers and batsmen sucked. Cox started the season well but then decided to fail abit and got the chop, after a game out, he played really well.

In the draft I'll be trying to rebuild my team. Tassie has the most draft picks (9) and with 3 first round picks, there should be some great players up for grabs. Murlie is Tassie bound for season 2.

Best Player: Wright(yet we still couldn't keeep him for next season, he is in the draft)
Upcomer: Clingleffer

Acheivments
8th in one day league - the first team to be either promoted or relegated.
Quarter-finalist in cup - caused a huge upset by toppling WA in the first round, never played better.

Song that refers to this season:
Can't hit this - M.C.C.

Song that refers to next season:
Things can only get better.

I rival you in suckiness Paid - 3 of my top 5 averages were made by bowlers (4 of 6 as well I think), and my leading wicket-taker was a batsman.

And I only get 6 drafts as I misread the timings and thought I had another 24 hours to trade!

Well – whoever would have predicted before the start of the season that Lancashire would be the flagbearer for English cricket in a strong Division one?

A.Swann led the way in the batting with a superb season scoring three 100’s and three 50’s to average 68.
Another surprise package was the youngster T.Roberts who scored a century and two 50’s to also end up in the top ten averaging over 40.
R.Dravid also made the top ten although his seaon’s OD average was a disappointing 38. What a shame I only found out towards the end of the season when the 4 Day team lists came out that I could use him as my keeper! My other keepers were non-contributors with the bat.
G.Lloyd averaged 41 in all OD games over the season and played his part too.
N.Fairbrother also had a good season with the bat to average in the thirties.
M.Chilton, R.Driver, J.Haynes(wk) and W.Hegg(wk) were all dismal failures with the bat.
As an allrounder, A.Flintoff was solid but nothing more, averaging just over 20 with the bat and taking wickets at an average of just over 30 (rpo-4).

Trouble was that there was a danger that I could lose N.Fairbrother(age 39) and G.Lloyd(33) to retirements and T.Roberts is no top order batsmen in the 4 Day form of the game, so improving the batting for Season Two was a huge priority in end of season trading and the draft to follow. More about that later though!

Of the bowlers, P.Martin stood out taking a sizeable haul of wickets at 21 apiece although to be honest he was a little too expensive for my liking. Aged 34, he was another I might lose to retirement.
C.Schofield started the season slowly and was dropped for a short period, but boy did he come back with a vengeance! He ended the season taking 13 FC wickets at 16 and 19 OD wickets at an average of 18. Add to that his useful batting and there was no way I was going to let him go!
M.Smethurst, J.Anderson (and J.Wood to a lesser extent) were invaluable in that they were always awkward for the opposition batsmen. Their averages don’t reflect the fact that they were very tight. In FC games they both took wickets at an average of 24. It was with some reluctance that I let them both go at season’s end due to trying to build a squad that would be a real handful at both FC and OD level.
K.Hogg and G.Maiden showed early promise, but by season’s end had been consigned to the scrapheap. G.Chapple performed better with bat than ball and was discarded early on as a bowling force.
G.Yates will be a useful pickup for somebody through the draft as he is a solid spinner who also bats a bit. Aged 35 though, he was another retirement risk.
G. Keedy was the only player in the squad not to get a good tryout.

And so a largely unheralded bowling attack per formed out of their skins to successfully defend totals that were gettable for opponents batting second or in restricting run chase totals for their own batsmen.

The end of season trades was a crucial time then for Lancashire.
A stroke of luck when I traded Fairbrother before GB came out with the edict that all players 38+ would be retired at season’s end. In fairness to the opposing manager, GB made an exemption in Fairbrother’s case.
Another stroke of good fortune when careful scrutiny of opposing squads picked up that Surrey would be without a keeper for the following season. I offered Surrey a very useful keeper I’d picked up from Mumbai (V.Mane) and managed to pick up a much needed good batsman in return (M.Ramprakash).
Tamil Nadu’s manager had a surfeit of good batsmen and desperately wanted to strengthen his bowling attack for next season. He was delighted to pick up P.Martin and in turn I was delighted to welcome J.Modanagopal to Lancashire.
Wheeling and dealing saw several useful bowlers coming to Lancashire (A.Noffke, S.Muller and M.Sigera) only to then be pursued relentlessly by other managers and traded to further balance out my squad.
By the end of trading I felt happy that I had a group of players to retain that will make Lancashire a definite threat at both FC and OD level next season – M.Ramprakash, A.Swann, R.Dravid(wk), J.Modanagopal, D.Marsh. M.Beerala, C.Schofield, M.Pushpakumara, R.Munnik, P.Mhambrey, A.Dale and D.Ganesh.

Roll on the draft! And then I guess there’ll be some last minute trades before the start of Season Two. As for my draft pick options, I’ll keep my preferences to myself at this stage. My initial gut feeling is that I’m pleased I only have to make four picks as after the first couple of rounds I don’t think there will be too much of substance left to choose from. I could well be wrong on this though and there will be a few managers out there who will be hoping I am!

WATCH OUT FOR LANCASHIRE NEXT SEASON!

Is there gonna be some last minute trade?
I remember lord saying that ALL trades had ended on friday.Im in favour of last minute trades as it would help balancing of teams better after the drafts.
My team report will follow in a few hours.

South Australian Season Report

Well after a slow start to the season and an early exit from the CA Cup South Australia looked in a new direction releasing their 1st ever manager and signing New Manager Brendon Goff...

Goff's signing had immediate effect on the SA team after their record defeat against Worcester, they looked as though their season was gone but in his 1st game in charge Goff helped turn the tables, as the SA side defeated Somerset in a very close encounter...
The season Strolled on and it wasn't until Round 9 when the season really hotted up SA had moved to equal 1st on the table with indian giants Tamil Nadu, and the next round was the match up which could decide the title..
This game was to show how well SA had turned their season around as the Tamil Naduians opted to bat and ammassed a daunting total of 5/289, but the resolve of the SA side shone through and with the experience of Lehmann and the youth of Miller and Harris the SA boys chased the total down with 4 overs to spare and 6 wickets in hand, they now had the outright lead in the Division 2 comp and from there on applied the pressure to the Indians and they stumbled...
SA eventually won the division with a 4 point break, a brilliant turn around from the slow start to the season...

The SA side has also been active in the player market looking alot towards youth and building a side for the future, picking up Bond, Watson and also 3 1st round DP's....
Although in doing so they let go of Gillespie, McIntyre and Blewett...
But Manager Brendon Goff i very confident of doing well next season....

SA Player of the Season: D.Lehmann/M.Harrity

Rookie of the Year: M.Miller

Most Dissapointing: G.Blewett

Roll on Season 2
SA FOR THE TITLE!!!!

it was a good season and bugs malone has built a very good side for season 2 with many new players and many players being released.

it will be a very big year, defending the ca cup and hoping to add to the trophey cabinet.

Worcestershire had a solid season finishing 3rd in division 2. Manager broncoman took over in in the last few rounds but did manage to turn the team into a force. worcs won their last 3 matches which included a WCC record individual score of 160 by D.Pipe.
Only 3 players have been retained for next season, them being, Pipe, Smith and Liptrot. Insperational captain Graeme Hick has moved WA.
Sevearal high profile players will be heading to Worcs next season including, Katich, Higgs and Young.
Next seasons aim is to finish in the top 4 of all competitions.

My Expectations from another **** English County cricket team were never high at all from the start , we enjoyed the nightclubs , nightlife , played cricket to flex muscles often tried if there was money at stake , you might call it match fixing but the Hampshire manager calls it earning money for the team to buy clothes and food and to move away from the village of hampshire . has anyone seen my team , after a batsmen is out the batsmen out has to give his T-Shirt to the incoming batsmen Why ?! u ask because we have no money !! so we bet with other teams so that isint match fixing , its called feeding the poor cricket people

Im glad that i reached the semis but my match fixing took the better of me and thats how nsw beat me , now the secret is out...

My expectations for the new season are my team are gonna try hard , and im gonna try hard so our team can go to Division 3 , i heard its heaven there ..., getting records such as low scores and greatest marginal loss

Highs - getting high , being board member of wcc , reaching division 2 , earning a NEW RECORDS ! - record money earnings of 1 million from the semi finals loss to nsw through match fixing , when this fat lady said she was gonna to be my stripper in the club then

lows - when my team looked like it wouldnt go to division 2 at one stage , when i once thought of trying with hampshire only to have a loss of the lowest score by hampshire ,

Hints

Dont try to hard cause you aint gonna succeed with teams like NSW , Queensland , W.A , T.N , S.Australia

Choose the Worst Picks in the drafts , so the best ones are left for me

Use An all bowling lineup for your team so that you can reach new records such as low scores and vice versa use an all batting lineup if u want to use worst bowling records

Drink and Play a cricket match so the feeling of loss wouldnt be that bad

Never eat bread on the terrace in the open the birds will attack you

Cheers

Reuben
