Teuton
International Captain
It is time to kick off the third iteration of this comp in 2019.
For those who haven't been involved in the past, this is both a draft and fantasy game where the winner will be decided by how their players produce across the year. To give a large enough pool of players for a draft, every international game in calendar year 2018 (Test, ODI, T20I) will be counted in the one competition. As an aside it should add interest to series that you wouldn’t have otherwise given much thought to.
Scoring will be 1 point for every run, 20 per wicket and 5 per catch/stumping.
The year will be broken into 4 three-month quarters (Q1 = Jan-Mar, etc) with a main draft in December, and minor changes before every quarter where you can cut guys who aren’t playing/performing and replace them with anyone else who hasn’t been picked (via a minidraft in reverse order of current standings).
Participants will pick a squad of 14 players in given positions (see below), with the top 11 in each quarter contributing to your total so that you aren’t punished if up to 3 of your players don’t play much in that quarter for whatever reason. This will be done automatically and won’t be dependent on position.
1 Opening Batsman OP
2 Opening Batsman OP
3 Middle Order Batsman MOB
4 Middle Order Batsman MOB
5 Middle Order Batsman MOB
6 All Rounder AR
7 Wicketkeeper WK
8 Fast Bowler FB
9 Fast Bowler FB
10 Fast Bowler FB
11 Spin Bowler SP
12 Bowler Bowl
13 Batsman Bat
14 Any
To ease administrative burden for me I will define the positions of players in the near future.
• Bowler can be either a FB or SP
• Batsman can be either OP or MOB
Given the size of the player pool I am looking for 10 participants with the patience to read this whole post, draft 14 rounds and then the interest to follow for the year with occasional input. I will update and post the scores every 2-4 weeks.
The draft has a clear deadline of January 1. Given that a bit of research and schedule checking will be required more than latent knowledge I reckon we will aim for a start in a few days time. Normal draft rules of randomised order, reversed, then re-randomised each round will apply. 8 hours per pick – which may be adjusted if we get close to deadline.
Obviously I realise that the calendar year is both a long time and doesn’t line up nicely with cricket seasons, but to give a large enough pool to support a reasonable draft, and to have an unambiguous start/end, this is how it is. If there are Tests that cross the boundary between 2 periods, matches will be attributed to the day that they are scheduled to start.
I also realise that most fixtures have not yet been determined, which is another element of luck. Expect that series will be continually added as the year progresses, sometimes following the FTP, sometimes not. The amount that each team played in total wasn't surprising.
