- Dhoni fanboys used to give Pant a really hard time early in his career because they were threatened by him and have slowly shut up because Pant has surpassed him in tests.

- Dhoni fanboys also downgrade literally any active Indian captain and pretend MS would have done better because of *insert random reason*

- Jadeja fanboys (two in particular, you know who you are ) disparage Kuldeep and Ashwin constantly to make Jadeja look even better than he is.

This thread idea was created on the third point you've mentioned 😀

Many Australians (and other) believed Murali to be a chucker from very early in his career & it had nothing to do with Warne

Very rarely heard the Ponting/Kallis comparisons

It’s generally been v Tendy

Just a reminder the whole point of a player comparison sub-forum is to upgrade and downgrade players. If we all agreed on their relative rankings and merits, this sub-forum wouldn't need to exist.

Using other players' merits to make your case on a certain player's rating is par for the course The only question is if it is accurate or not.

If HB says Lara is awesome because his peer Tendulkar has XYZ issue, that is fine. Of course, HB usually makes blanket statements rather than comparative arguments in this regard, so the OP on him is not correct.

You can prop up the player you're advocating for without disparaging the other one.

You've gone out of your way to pull down Lara, Kallis, Ambrose and others when it wasn't required. Just say what you like about your guy.

Says who? The whole point is to compare. There is no protocol I violate. What you call disparaging I call legitimate criticism.

If you say I bring up a critique in an unrelated way, I can find that acceptable. But if I knock Ambrose in an Ambrose thread and it just rubs you the wrong way, get some harder skin frankly.

SR is a legit reason, he is not being upped.

What you all want to say is that average should be the sole yardstick to judge batsmen.
Nope. You can care for strike rate, just don't push it on those who doesn't care..... There are also criterias like having great series away, or performing well in difficult and varied batting conditions.

Both good points.
