Does Ben Foakes have a legitimate case for Test selection?

The most prudent thing to do seems to be to change tack from being someone who tries to provide useful information on a pertinent point, to being a poster who criticises the terms used by posters who provide insight and information in good faith.

In what way would I be the 'culprit' so to speak?

I responded to a point about England picking wicket keepers who weren't elite wicket keepers, by posting (to support the point the poster had made) a list of England wicket keepers and their number of caps.

Why is @Ali TT's description (which I was responding to) of England picking "batting keepers who are a bit hapless with the gloves" acceptable, but my reference to "specialist" keepers and others selected as keepers unacceptably careless, and worthy of 6 pages of arguing over the terminology I used?

"Hapless" goes way further than anything I've said about the players, and yet this is the guy lecturing me for being imprecise with my terminology.

The only ones in the list that aren't specialist keepers are Stewart, Bairstow, Pope and, arguably, Buttler (I don't know about Blakey).

For his first few years of county cricket Blakey was picked as a batter who stood in as keeper when (David) Bairstow was unavailable.

Blakey went on that disastrous tour of India in the early 90s and had a total mare with the bat. I think England hilariously misread a pitch too and went with four seamers as India loaded up the spinners.

irc Jim Parks also got the nod due to his batting ability, but I'm not 100% sure who was excluded as a result. Maybe John Murray.

Yes his main rival was Murray who was regarded as the best keeper in the country. Like Knott, and unlike Evans and Bob Taylor, Murray preferred to stand back to medium-fast bowlers.

I'd just like to add that I'm 6ft 2 and a former wicket keeper. I'm neither wiry or stocky!! Although, had I started growing before I became a keeper I may not now have the knees of a geriatric!
