two very entertaining batters who had struggles with injuries throughout their careers, Weekes has a greater home record but also had far more generous home pitches, Compton's probably more achieved overall and had a significantly longer career/struggled less with constant injuries but... had his fair share as well, lol. Both get underrated by people who aren't aware of the context of their away tours.

so Who is better?

Weekes is one of my favorite batsmen of all time. Probably came a bit early for really high quality bowling opposition, and not as much footage as I would ideally like to see.

But from what I have seen I'm a total believer. Hard for me to pick anyone other than obviously Bradman, and Sobers over him.

you're not really gonna get more quality than 50s England and Australian attacks and he averaged 60+ against them, albeit, at home where the pitches were slower and dryer.

I guess he was just someone born at the wrong time, he would've loved the 2000s with the modern healthcare combined with every country bar South Africa being slow and dry.

Compton too, great player, averaged 55 on wet greentops, has a 60 overall home average even though the pitches were landmines for half his career and he faced an ATG attack, his away work is probably more profounding as he proved himself in Australia in both 47 and 54, has a good series in South Africa and West Indies as well and his domestic work in Asia is sensational, good close comparison overall.

Compton >~ Weekes > Walcott > May > Worrell imo, Compton's record against Surrey when he was a test standard batter is excellent and they had an absurd attack for those conditions, his record against Trueman is also great.

Compton vs Surrey (1946-57, Bedser twins, Laker, Lock): 1,138 runs @ 54.1, 3 hundreds.
