CW's Ranking of Pace Bowlers (Tests)

Line and Length

Cricketer Of The Year
Why Willis?
There may be more consistent bowlers but his devastating 8-43 in the 1981 Ashes is regarded as one of the all-time best Test bowling performances by a fast bowler.

Sarfraz Nawaz has a better one.
I can't argue with that ... and admired his efforts.
However, Willis has an average of 25.2, 3.6 wpm and 16 fivefers.
On those figures it's hard to understand "Why Willis?"
Sarfraz averaged 32.7, 3.2 wpm and 5 fivefers.

Having said all that, I overlooked Miller who was one of my boyhood heroes.

I voted for Miller on personal preference and to get him on the radar - I wasn't expecting such immediate support as to get him voted in straight away. Between this and Trumper finally getting over the line in the batsmen's list, this has been a banner weekend.

There seems to be an accepted code - based on the voting so far - that the next two England fast bowlers are Willis and Larwood, followed by Statham and Snow.

To offer what is clearly an unpopular opinion, I don't think Stuart Broad suffers by comparison with any of them. On the basis of epic match-turning or match-winning spells he stands alongside almost anyone.
