CW Player Ratings

I'd like to propose a new idea for CW -- an ongoing player rating project.

The way I envision it is that after every completed test series of the year, we all post ratings out of 10 for all the players in that series. Lots of news sites do things like this, but usually it's only one commentator doing it -- if loads of people provide their own ratings the average will be pretty close to a consensus figure, eliminating bias perhaps. Could also inspire interesting debate.

If we continue that for every series through the year, we will be able to form a meaningful impression of who the best players in the world are this year.

Doing it for every single match seems like too much work, so I want to do it for each series as it's completed. The overall impact on the series anyway provides a better idea of consistency and general value.

Obviously, only relevant for Tests...

Anyone interested? It would be free for anyone to post, no commitment to post every series -- only when you're interested.

It's nice to see some ratings posted -- thanks and keep them coming please.

I'm seeing a pattern, kinda expected, where the best and the worst are rated as such by everyone. I didn't see any of the Australia/Pakistan series, but clearly Abdur Rauf was truly horrendous and Watson must have been close to perfect (ratings so far of 1, 1, 1, 1.5 and 9, 9.5, 9, 9 respectively).

Mostly, ratings fall in a range of 2.5 points -- lowest of 5, highest of 7.5, for example; or 4.5 to 7). Only two players fall outside that range so far:

There's a split opinion on Misbah-ul-Haq -- 3.5, 2, 5, 5.5 -- and one anomalous rating of Sarfraz Ahmed that falls outside the range -- 2.5, 3, 6, 3.5.

I'd be interested to know what the pros and cons on those two were, why the opinion is split like that.

I guess, for me, because I put Kamran at 3 I put Sarfraz a fair bit higher because considering it was only one game and his keeping was okay from what I saw, I didn't want to mark down too much. Perhaps I should have given less to Kamran, but I again wanted him a bit ahead of Rauf, and I thought it would be a bit rude to give him 0 or -1.
