Trying to do something different here, create an all time best Test XI with the simple rule..choose only one player from each country maximum....

Although would be a little difficult or unusual picking the eleventh player from Ireland or Afghanistan...but that would be interesting as well as to where that player fits in the playing XI...so let's see....

My list (based on whatever cricket I have actually seen):

Sachin Tendulkar
Hashim Amla
Joe Root
Kane Williamson (c)
Asghar Afghan
Shakib Al Hasan
Andy Flower (wk)
Wasim Akram
Courtney Walsh
Glenn McGrath
Muttiah Muralitharan

I've stuck to players who played in the last 30 years

Kane Williamson (c)
Ed Joyce
Brian Lara
Sachin Tendulkar
Jacques Kallis
Andy Flower (wk)
Shakib Al Hasan
Freddie Flintoff
Wasim Akram
Muttiah Muralitharan
Glenn McGrath

Flem274*

123/5
Jack Hobbs (England)
Sunil Gavaskar (India)
Donald Bradman (Australia)
Jacques Kallis (South Africa)
Andy Flower (wk) (Zimbabwe)
Shakib al Hasan (Bangladesh)
Kevin O'Brien (Ireland)
Imran Khan (c) (Pakistan)
Richard Hadlee (New Zealand)
Malcolm Marshall (West Indies)
Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka)

An alternative is Sobers in for Kallis which necessitates Steyn, Donald or Pollock in for Marshall. YMMV.

Yeah i don't like Flower keeping in Tests but all the alternatives seem worse. I'd probably do Sobers and Steyn for Kallis and Marshall but this seems about right.

Not different, pretty sure this has been done multiple times somewhere within the 22000 posts of the ATG XI thread

Ok.

But I am new to these forums, so I thought this was never done before..and I like creating and participating in lists/polls/tournaments on forums...I have been doing this on wrestling forums a lot before....

Very interesting observation in these kind of threads....Just coz you have very limited choices to pick from...you also have to make a choice whether you want a solid top order...solid middle order...solid all-rounders....solid spin attack..or a solid a fast bowling lineup...it's very difficult to get all of them right....you could a few things right....but not all...

Wanted to make a bit of a different team to most. So no Murali.

Hobbs
Gavaskar
Bradman
Sangakkara
Flower
Sobers
Imran
Shakib
Hadlee
Rashid
Steyn

Bradman and Imran to share captaincy duties. Sanga and Flower to share keeping duties based on performance in their last innings.

#batdeep #bowldeep

Originally I had Kallis but the pace attack felt too weak. Ideal player to fill would be Procter if he’d had a longer career.

Didn’t play tests but ok.

I’ll try one without using any of the best players from each country.

Sutcliffe
Tamim
Sangakkara
Williamson
Miandad
Gilchrist+
Ashwin
Streak
Marshall
Murtagh
Steyn

Dunno if Murtagh is the best from Ireland. Haven’t studied em much. Makes it much harder to choose the team and gives more permutations probably, otherwise half of the players or more will be the same across the teams.
