Craig White - the end of the road?

Craig White has said he'll play the rest of this season as a specialist batsman due to injury preventing him bowling.

He may not have been the best player we ever had, but he certainly provided some memorable moments for England.

Thanks for everything Craig.

Yeah thanks Chalky, I hope you come back though. The one gripe is your batting and bowling have never fired at the same time.

Well hopefully he will stick around for next season. he was/is a very good player, but had limited opputunities (sort of) as he normally only played due to injury. And now, when he finally breaks into a tsarting spot in the side, he gets injurred :(

the question is, will he get picked in county cricket only a batsman?

Owwww come on. Give me something to hope for. And dont tell me that if he did keep it up (that is got 173* every time batted) for 5-10 matches, you wouldnt put him in the team.

Not a hope.
England don't play Derbyshire often.

Saying that, a ton's a ton. I've given him plenty of stick in the past, but the bloke's a genuine trier.

Without his bowling, his international career is over, although Craig White's batting has come on in leaps and bounds in the last 3 years. He seems far more consistent now than he used to be. I get the feeling his bowling was what got him into previous teams but his batting would put him on the cusp of selection, particularly if he has to give up pace and bowl off-spin like he used to.

Nevertheless, I agree with all here; he's a tremendous bloke and a gutsy cricketer who has been struck down by injury just as he was looking like a world-beater. What a shame.

But now with his bowling "out of the way", maybe he can consentrate on batting and find a spot in the team. I know his bowling got him i the team, but that 173* gives me hope. if he does it every game, Im sure he'll get a run.

But the point is he won't do it every game. He batted well in some of his more recent performances for England (thinking back to since India tour) but he's not a test match batsman. Flintoff's surely overtaken him now anyway and he is what, 33?

Still, he was a very good player on his day.

IMO, at his peak he was a far better bowler than flintoff, sad to see him lose his bowling... I hope he comes back sometime in England colours :(

I know the odds are that he wont do it every game. but stranger things have happened. And if h does keep up this form, Im SURE hell be back playing for England even (knock wood) if he doesnt have his bowling.

But that is a very big IF I must admit. But it gives me hope.

I'd say there's more hope of Bangladesh winning their next series then of Craig White playing for England as a specialist batsman!

You could do a lot worse, he is better than Key anyway...
