Coming back to the 2003 WC final, an interesting observation

At 147-3, into the 24th over, Sehwag was teeing off

However by the 30th over, McGrath had bowled many overs, B Lee and Bichal's overs were running out.

It would've meant, 13 overs would be bowled by spinners, Sehwag was hitting fours and sixes off spinners

I read an article by Chappell stating if India had binded their time, they would've faced many overs by spinners which they very well could've teed off, however it was not to be

Do you believe things may have turned interesting?

●Context is important..ODI cricket was very different in 2003 , before the introduction of T20 in international cricket ..

●We used to think 300 was a superb score back then , 359 would have been a world record chase back in 2003 ..

●You had guys like Dravid and Mongia in the middle order who weren't power hitters ..

●The only hope India had after conceding such a big score was for a good platform like the one they had in the Natwest final in 2002 , Tendulkar getting out in the first over was a huge psychological blow ..This was before the time of chase masters Dhoni and Kohli so platform mattered by openers .

●Australia's bowling strategy banked on the fact that they had a formidable target so they used their seamers up front cause they knew if they grabbed wickets up front it was all over for India ..

●Had India gotten off to a flyer they would have spread their resources accordingly aswell ..

● It wasn't close enough of a match to talk about strategy, at no point did Australia feel uncomfortable. Even at 147/3 , going at 8 an over for 26 overs even with wickets in hand was a monumental task in a 2003 ODI mindset .

It would've been interesting if Sehwag was not run out

However the Indian batsman did give their wickets away, how different it would've been if they was chasing 270

I was actually inspired by Sehwag, Ganguly smashing the Aussies in the first nine overs, inspiring to see in a WC final chasing an imposing total.

It could've been interesting and Ganguly bringing in Mongia, tendulkar, Sehwag, yuvi after 20 overs was a big mistake

Should've bowled his attacking bowlers to try to get two three quick wickets
