Centenary draft

AndrewB

International Vice-Captain
Simple idea: imagine it's 15th March 1977: pick players for your all-time World (Test) XI.

No Bradman as usual.

This draft presents an interesting aspect when selecting players. There are many ATG/ATVG players whose careers span the date mentioned. Lillee, Lloyd, Underwood, Boycott are prime examples. Will they have achieved enough by the set date to warrant selection?
Given the frequency of current players (eg Smith, Root, Cummins etc) being selected in other drafts it is apparent that some players, as at March 15 1977, would have done enough up to that stage of their careers but what of the 'late bloomers' whose careers straddle that date?
It will be interesting researching careers when both selecting players and , later, when considering votes.
I look forward to a an interesting draft and seeing how draftees consider those players whose careers span the date.

I think when selecting such a player, you should have to give their career span and record to that point as well btw.

I'm impatient, hurry up and let's start

Around the time of the Centenary Test, there were All-time England and Australia XIs selected by Hutton, Miller and a panel of Arlott, Swanton and Frith. They appear in the ATG Teams thread.

The only current player selected was Lillee, by the three-man panel. They also picked Simpson who would come out of retirement later in the year.

Knott and Greg Chappell were notable omissions.
