That's what we had before. It didn't work.
Look, just trust the older members when they say that PM's is not a good idea. You weren't around to experiance waht was going on and what happened. Frankly, some of the stuff going on at that time stressed us to the limit and we really don't want to get back into a situation where that can happen again.
So please, let PM's go - and I'll say the older heads around here will agree.

While I agree PM's might be out of it... I really think we sould bring back sigs... I mean the arcade is just a waste of time IMO and I'd much rather have sigs! I know I might not be in the majority, but surely we can have both? I just think it's really tight not to allow sigs but to have an Arcade!

For the record:
Similes/Pictures in Sigs - this got completely out of control with people putting multiple images and large ones into their sigs slowing viewing time and generally just wasting space on the page. It was decided by senior Cricket Web staff that image functionality should be switched off. You'll find that most large forums have this switched off also for the same reason.
PM's - these will never and I repeat never make a return due to the trouble they cause and the constant spamming that occurs over them.
Bandwidth and space is not an issue at all and for the record the Arcade takes up a tiny 16.4MB (as at time of post).

No thanks to PM's
I come from a site which uses PM and I think perhaps our site will go the same way and stop using the PM's. Obviosly, Pm's are private but there is nothing to stop people from posting the contents of them on the site, or from members leaving due to Pm abuse.people on our site have used Pm's to try to solve issues, but really it just makes them worse. On a forum the mods and administrators need to control things. if people use the MSN handle as part of their signature ,ok, they can block any users they don't like. Pm's are more difficult to block.
I'm happier without Pm's. However,on our site (a v bulletin site) there is the option for members to click 'don't recieve pm's' on the user CP.

I think it should come back even if only for a week or so, just to test out the system.
If the spam come back then we block it again. For the trading thing, couldn't you just say that no talking over PM unless allowed before hand by the two users concerned.
Paid's Final Thought: If PM was the way SPAMMING couldn't you just stop messages that go to XX many people within 5 minutes or something. Just a thought.

As we've said multiple times PMs will not be brought back anytime soon.
500 posts matters little. The biggest spammer in Cricket Web's history had more than 500 posts at the time....
I see little point continuing this discussion after we've made the situation clear many times. Thread closed.
