I share many of the same concerns but I think Hobbs adaptability on bad wickets was so exceptional to dispel major doubts about him transferring into a different era. I thank Johan for that takeaway.

I can't put Hobbs number two of all time due to lack of video evidence but he is definitely top tier.
His best utility would probably be as an anti spin player, in the middle order. But whatever, he opened back then, so he must be the greatest for that position only, is what it seems like people insist.

If it was Sobers for Marshall and some all-rounder equivalent to Zaheer (say Holder), I would go with Don. But here, not sure. Think a match winning pacer like Marshall, is probably just more valuable to an average side.
