You must be wondering wth I'm saying. India were clear cut underdogs back then and even if they lost to Zimbabwe badly, there would have been no harsh criticism or mockery since they were not expected to do well.

West Indies were the best side in the world in 1984, and the series began on a shaky note with Windies losing many wickets for very less runs. An embarrassing loss would have potentially set the tone for the rest of the tour, and Windies might have lost the test series as well.
