Ive just read through this, and because im so lazy, i cant be bothered to look myself... can anyone say if Jayasuriya's 346* against india in columbo 1997 had been nominated?

Lara for mine. Could be just due to arrogance on my part, but I don't see what's special about Viv's knock. He wasn't even top-scorer.

Goochy for me

I understand the importance of slaters' knock but i think MacGill was the real difference between the 2 sides in that test, had he not ripped out the lower order in England's first innings even slater's knock wouldn't have saved them.

Gooch wins by sheer weight of runs for me.

Gooch played against a very weak Indian bowling attack. Also it was a batting bonanza. Everyone scored heavily. Azhar's knock was more attractive actually. Slater hands down.

Yeah and to outscore everyone of them says something about the quality of the knock and slater was playing in a dead game anyway.

If the Indian attack was weak (mind you it had Kapil) then the english attck was also no world beater.
