Battle of the Test Innings

International 12th Man
Best innings I have seen without a doubt was Brian Lara's 400 n.o. It was just mammoth and such a feat will probably never be seen again

Whatever it takes!!!
Lara... the sheer volume of runs and the time spent in the middle amazes me. It is all very well that it was a road. But how many guys have played on a road without making a mistake for 550+ balls against one of the better bowling attacks in world cricket?

If you're looking at time in the middle, then I suggest you click the Greatbatch link as well.
Looks a very impressive effort. I would have rated that knock higher than both innings in the previous battle, but 400 is just such a huge volume of runs. Greatbatch obviously was under more pressure considering the match situation, but considering the situation of the series in 2004, I would say Lara wasn't under any less pressure either. And both tracks seem to have been rather easy for batting, although obviously Perth CANNOT have been as good as Antigua. So, all things considered, I still vote for Lara

Greatbatch...if any NZ batsman's innings should get through the first round it's this one.

It's hard to call this, instinctively I want to vote for Lara because no one has scored more runs in any test innings & that is hard to ignore. Weighed against that is the fact that he was pretty much batting for himself on the third day. I can totally sympathise as to why he would do so, but ultimately it may've cost his team the chance to win the match. I personally think BCL has played better innings that have had a more positive effect on the Windies' chances.

I'll hold my hand up & say I haven't seen one ball of Greatbatch's innings, but it does look a superb rearguard effort &, crucially for me, a match-saving one.

Greatbatch here.
