Australia tactics 2003-04 series in India tactics

It's been a long time ago, however it still is in my memory

From what I can recall, most of the series, Australia set defensive

From ball one:

Leg side:

-square leg
-short mid wicket
-mid on
-fine leg

Off side:

-slip
-gully
-point
-extra cover
-mid off

Was the tactics to get batsman lbw, bowl straight lines in order to frustrate batsman for runs and also to get a edge to the keeper?

Defensive tactics which worked perfectly

Would have been playing to the pitches. No point going with 4 slips and a gully if the wickets are slow and low. Makes more sense to attack the stumps more.

Except you happened to play on the greenest track of the 00s in INdia in that tour and Bangalore had plenty for seamers as well, due to it being early monsoon days.

I read somewhere this tactic was used to frustrate and dry batsman for runs and try to dismiss via lbw and caught behinds

That makes no sense lol. "Trying to dismiss via lbw and caught behinds" is just standard Test bowling, aggressively for wickets. A defensive tactic would be trying to frustrate batsmen with defensive fields and trying to dismiss by catches in front of the wicket or on the fence, which happens at some point in most Test matches.

Is there a difference in colour perception or language in India that leads people to say a pitch was green, when it in fact was not green?

There tactics in 2001 were different, for Tendulkar they had slips, gully etc

But anway I don't know what to tell you man. I'm sure field settings changed at times throughout both series, like most Test series. If they had less slips at times my assumption would be there was less pace and bounce in the wickets so attacking the stumps was a more sensible course of action, as it often is in the sub-continent.
