pretty predictable, theres the token players making up the numbers like Shaun Marsh, Ben Hilfenhaus, Doug Bollinger, David Hussey etc...

Apart from David Hussey and Doug Bollinger. I think the remaining 28 reflect the 28 top one day players in the country.

A good squad, and nobody can really complaign about it.

Doug Bollinger is just extracting the urine. Fair enough selecting Hilfenhaus, Marsh etc. to show they are in the minds of the selectors, Hayden is an interesting one in that regard though, as they are the future.

David Hussey is a good limited overs cricketer. I would say he is the third in line outside of the XI behind Jaques and Cosgrove for a batting spot. 3rd most runs in the ING cup last year with 535 runs @ 76.42 and a strike rate of 92.

Agree with GB there, and I reckon it's good to see them picking Hussey, who's averaging over 38 in List-A.

oh my i just realised as well, so Dizzy has become a test specialist now, not a big problem is guess since in the coming years with McGrath likely to go fairly soon once he bowls well is experience will be needed.

Not a huge surprise I don't think. He's still a decent OD bowler I'm sure, but the fact is that Nathan Bracken is ranked in the top 10 ODI bowlers in the world, and McGrath will be returning in that form of the game as well, along with Lee. Throw in Hogg and Clark and there's really no room for someone like Gillespie to push his way back into the team. In case of injury or rotation, they'd be better off playing a younger bowler and letting Gillespie get his form and fitness right to play test cricket, where he could still be a strong option.

A lot of the names on that list are fairly unrealistic, but I actually think they are fairly interested in Bollinger. He's had his occasional good moments in the ING Cup, and he's another left-armer who swings it. I don't think he'll play an ODI any time soon (and possibly never), but I bet he's closer to playing one right now than Ben Hilfenhaus.

Hussey is certainly closer than Marsh as well.

Why would Thornley be considered? He may have had moderate success in the first class arena but he is really lost when it comes to the one day side of things. Has an inability to pace an innings and can't bowl to save himself. With Hopes and Watson in the squad there is no need for him. He's not in the best 30 players anyway.

Hopefully Aus will also select a likely squad for the first Ashes test and then remove any of those players from the final Champions Trophy squad.

Why they would want to subject test players to a meaningless tourney in India when they have a massive schedule in front of them is beyond me.

I read a report where a former player proposed the idea. I just don't think it's fair to say it is an arrogant comment (and IMO is not a remark that is necessary). I don't think social was implying that Australia would win the comp without the test players. Although it would never happen because country cricket boards are expected to select the best players available for every tournament they are involved in, it isn't that bad of an idea. I dobut Australia nor England would send a 2nd string side.
